Once more into the breech. Here's a picture (I hope) of a rainbow from Smith's creek taken on my new 6'6" 2 weight.

O.K. I finally got this picture thing figured out. Here is a picture of the new rod that I just made. It's a 6'6" 2 weight with Naval Aviator's Wings woven in the butt section. This is the first rod I've made in about 10 years and it took me some time to remember how to do things.

I saw this rod up close. It's a sweet rod, with a lot of obvious attention to detail and craftmanship. The Wings look almost as if they were a decal. The picture of that rainbow proves it is both function and form.

Nice work, Chuck! Very clean.
Is that the Rainshadow/Hook&Hackle blank? I've been thinking of building one, and would love to know what you think of it.

Guthooked,
This is a Hook and Hackle IM6 blank with black components. Matte black blank. Thread is Gudebrod #245 size A Wings were woven with Special Ultra Metallic Dark Gold size A. Trim bands are gold mylar tape. Finish is 1 coat Flex Coat high Build. I built this rod specifically for streams like Smith's Creek. At first I didn't care for the way it was casting, then I realized that I was sort of chucking quite a bit of weight (2 flies plus weight) The more I've used it the better I'm liking it. Hopefully this picture will show the wings a little better.

Nice work Chuck--for an "old man". Hehee, I read your profile--I'm 16 months older than you are. :) Did you learn the weaving technique way back? I see you say you hadn't built a rod in about 10 years.

I started weaving on April 7, 1983. How do I know the exact date? I wrote the date that I bought Dale Clemens book"Custom Rod Thread Art" inside the cover. So I guess you could say that I learned to weave a few years ago.
Beutiful rod. What reel-line combo did you match it up with.
Guthooked I built that rainshadow 6'6'' a little while back and I can tell you it's worth the time spent making it. I put a battenkill 3/4 on it with Orvis 2 wt .....Sweet!!!!!
I am sitting here looking at it talk to me: fish me!! fish me!
The olde man had his mits' on it at one of the flings!

Chuck,
that is a beautiful rod... I'm very jealous of both it and your wading staff. I want one just like it!

Ivan.
The reel is a BPS large arbor HC-1. The line is the one that I won at the Fall Fling and it is Sage Quiet Taper II WF-3-F. My wife was good enough to get Santa to bring me the rod and reel.
Tom.
I hope to see you at Dreamlands, it looks pretty good right now for me to attend. I might just have something for you.
