I will be looking for a new 9 ft. 6 wt rod. I have only about $100 to spend. I've seen some good rods for the price on e-bay and on the web. What would you recommend among the following:
St. Croix Pro (I have a 7'6" 4 wt and like it)
St. Croix Imperial
Sage LE
Diamondback All American
one of the lower end TFO rods
Eagle Claw's Granger GX rods?
Thanks.

What type of fishing will you be doing with it? Will you be throwing heavy flies or light ones mostly?

Both, but probably more often weighted flies. This will be a bass rod and a rod for larger trout streams and rivers.

I have a 9' 6wt Diamondback All American rod. I love this rod. Casts well, not too heavy, very durable finish and metal 2 band uplocking reel seat. I have beat the crap out of this rod and it takes the abuse. I have used it for trout, bass, carp (really fun :) ) and have used it on saltwater. Cortland is the parent company I beleive and these rods are handmade in Vermont I think. Right in the USA. When I caught that big carp I had this rod fully flexed. No creaks or moans at all. I think a few of the members have this brand rod and are happy with them. Normally priced at around 200-210. You can find this rod for about 100 bucks now. Lifetime warranty is a big plus. Comapared to a St. Croix 9' 6wt Imperial model, the diamond back is a little stiffer. Plus you get a nice looking black pvc rod tube. Very slick and very tough. I have even taken this rod on a few flights with no problem. :D
FYI The TFO rods and Egle Claw rods do not come with a rod tube. Eagle claw, you get the rod and thats it, TFO you get a lovely rod sock.
Hope this helps.

gdad--you can get a 9', 6 wt St Croix ProGraphite at championoutfitters.com for $70 and free shipping. The Pro has been replaced by the Premier, but Champion has a few Pro's left. Give Rod or Matt Champion a call.
