Fly Boxes

I know this a dumb question but what kind (make/model) of fly boxes do you'll carry? Right now I own the cheap bass pro shop fly boxes and was looking into upgrading cause im just not satisfied (ie I would like to be able to put flies on both sides....) I was looking at the Scientific Anglers C&F boxes cause a guy I fished with a couple of weeks ago had one and they just look cool and functional. I know they don't have anything to do with catching fish but you have to have somewhere to store all the flies you tie....

UGA - C&F boxes are nice, and the ones that come with threaders too. I have some fishpond boxes, the Laurel Run Molded Nylon Fly Box and another they dont make anymore.
I like the zipper cause I know it will stay closed, and its light. I have a metal box, and the only complaint is the weight.

Question for yah - were you in the Fly tying class last year @ Ramsey Center???

While C&F Boxes are nice, there are other options out there that hold equally as many flies, and at a more affordable price. A couple of boxes to consider are the Orvis Clear compartment boxes (BPS sells these, as well as all local shops) and the Akiomu (sp?) boxes. These are probably my favorite boxes. The "fold up" and make for a nice box.

My best advice is to go to a fly shop near you and look at all the choices. Don't always rely on someone else's opinion. My favorite box could be your worst nightmare. See which box fits your amount of flies, and the way you prefer to store those flies.

I've tried just about every style of fly box on the market, and for trout flies the C&F boxes just can't be beat. They hold a ton of flies (I once counted over 400 flies in one of mine) in an organized manner, don't crush the hackles, and never wear out. I've got a couple that I've had for several years, and they're still in great shape. When you consider that a $15 foam box will be pretty much shredded after a year or so, $35 for a flybox isn't such a bad deal.

I have one of those C&F boxes that is watertight. Besides having flies on the sides, it has a middle card of flies too.

Talked with some folks about pro/cons of keeping all of you flies in one box. If you lose your bok, it's all gone. But, I still do it.

Always remember to write your name and number in your flybox in case you lose it.

Careful you don't accidently open that clear compartment box upside down. Even if you don't spill all your flies into the boat or river your gonna get to pick 'um all apart. Get the C&F box. It'll take better care of your hackles and keep you from losing debarbed flies etc.

I use the C&F System boxes, which are just like the regular C&F boxes, except you can swap out the inserts, allowing you to customize each box to the stream to which you're going.

The C&F boxes may be more expensive, but they are well designed, tough boxes that make finding the right fly a snap.

I just purchased the C & F system and can already tell I am going to like it. As has already been stated, don't just go on our opinions. Take your vest to the store with you and make sure that the new box will fit where you want it to go. Also make sure that you are comfortable handling it in the situations you will be in while fishing. To me personally, everything seems great at the store until I need to use it on the stream, then things are quite different! Good luck!

I went ahead and purchased a C&F from Unicoi today cause it just felt good in my hand and I wanted just cause. It looks very functional and can hold alot alot of flies. I guess me and the vise will be good friends for a while so I can fill it up... Thanks for all the responses. I guess this topic hasn't been covered alot so everyone was willing to participate.....
