Any one know of a local (Atlanta-metro) source for a thin walled, rigid tube that can be used for DIY rod tubes. Standard PVC is too heavy for what I want to do. I've not been able to find ABS tubing at the big box stores around here. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

If you don't find the thinner walled material you need at the local big box store, check hardware stores. Ace is a good bet, I've found. Most any plumbing supply shop will also have it.
Good luck!

McMaster-Carr has a good selection of thin-walled metal tubing. Aluminum, brass etc. Also some plastic but it's hard to find really thin platic tubing large enough for a rod tube.
It's not cheap though. Especially in sizes large enough for a rod tube.

One more thought if you want something fancy -- check out the Woodcrafter's shop on Holcomb Bridge near Georgia 400. They list wooden rod cases with metal end hardware in their catalog. Nice, but not cheap -- still hard to beat a 10-foot piece of thin-wall PVC for $3 or $4!

If you go to JoAnn fabrics or something similar, go to the uphostery fabric section. A lot of fabric like this is packed on thin walled PVC like material. They will usually give you one or two of these empty tubes free. I've gotten several that way. Can't beat the price.
I picked up some ABS at Lowe's,if I'm not mistaken I found it in the electical conduit section instead of plumbing. It may have been with the sprinkler systems.
