Hey Docfarmer,
Saw an earlier post by Tam O Shanter offering an Orvis 3wt for $65. The post doesn't show it as sold. I have one just like it and really like the rod. With a 3wt your reel is pretty much for line storage and you should be able to pick up a decient reel for about $30-40. With a good line you could put together a sweet rig for around $150. The Orvis full flex casts like a dream, and is perfect for the small creeks in the area. I have landed rainbows up to 22" on mine, though I don't recommend using it reguarly for big fish as you have to fight em so long it wears em out. What do you do though when fishing for brookies and a big ole bow or brown decides to suck down your fly? I for one am not going to high stick em and break the tippet on purpose.
Good luck in your search.
Rod is sold and waiting to be used this weekend.

You could go for a Temple Forks 3wt and a small Okuma disc drag reel.
Rod is about $100 and the Okuma reel is about $28 - $30
I have an Okuma 6wt reel and I really like it.

I can't come, I am leaving town Friday and have to pack and get everything together. I would love to come though, maybe next time around. I am, however, considering the TU meeting, but can't commit yet.
Thanks
Wes

I like my 2-piece 3-weight rod. Great rod for the money.

HMG 7' 4WT 2 piece (model GFF 704-2) and a Scientific Anglers SA 456 that I'll sell for $100.
The rod is in great shape (used on 12-15 trips) and comes with sock & aluminum tube. The reel is brand new and has never seen line or backing.

I was given a 7'6 ft 3 wt tfo outfit as a gift. How lucky am I? I was talking about buying one, and boom, It was given to me from my significant. The thing is, I was buying it for her and she goes and buys it for me.
Oh well, sometimes you know what happens.
Now I have to come up with another gift.
