I need to put a reel on a 8'6" 5wt St. Croix Premier. I'm looking to spend $150 or less. Its predominately going to be a Hooch rig. Right now I'm biased towards one reel, but I'm looking for other opinions. Thanks in advance for the recommendations.

I've got to think the new Orvis Battenkill Mid Arbor @ $115.00 is hard to beat in your price range. I think you could just about do reel and line for just a little more than $150.00

I have a Ross Cimarron 3 filled with Orvis line WF5 that is available for $70. Used only 3-4 times.

If I were going to purchase a new reel - the new Teton's are really nice.

If Baldea doesn't want that reel I can probably use it.

I am no expert, but I have several Ross Reels. Runners deal is a great one. If I did not already have more then I need, I would jump all over that....tear it up! :) Seriously, for that money with line......

I wish I would have looked on here last night. Runners Ross would have saved me some $$$, :(! oh well. Just got the new reel this AM.

Check out the Battenkill Barstock as well as the CFO at Orvis. I have one of these on a five wt. and it is a great reel. Looked at the CFO given the sale, but didn't like the click or the color. Yeah, I know the fish don't care and the CFO is a great deal at the sale price, but I actually prefer the BBS.

I wound up buying a Ross Colorado # 1 from Cabalas for about $80. I think the original price was $110-120. I'm going to use it on a 4wt. in the mountains so the click and pawl drag will be fine for me. I have a Colorado # 0 that I love on my 3 wt. These are discontinued reels that Cabalas may be the last retailer still selling. They are full CNC machined and have Ross life time guaranty and extra spools are readily available. Weight is pretty light compared with other options at this price point (I think the #1 is 4.1 ounces) and this price is too good to pass up. Ask around to see if you can look at one or perhaps you will get additional info on this reel on this thread.

I plan to save my pennies and either get a Litespeed or Evolution for my new 5 wt. Trout Girl is using the BBS most of the time, loves it, and won't let me use it any more!

Good luck.

Brent, you need to work on that pre-mature release of the wallet ;)
