View Full Version : Cabin and fishing question..
Jimmy and Metrela,
Looking for a cabin w/stream access somewhere around Blue Ridge. Was thinking about DRI but is only cabin #7 the one they are renting. Plus i heard the fishing there is not so great since the sept floods. Maybe a cabin on the Toccoa?? Small cabin's are best, hot tub access is a must!! One can get tired and sore while fishing ;) Might be training the Mrs. on the ways for flyfighing, if not, i'll get her on the water one way or another.. What ya'll think?? See ya Sat at the show in Gwinnett...

Spent last weekend in cabin 7 at DRI. Caught 6 in a couple of hours of fishing, all within 100 ft stretch. All were 10-12 inches. Just an FYI.

One cabin provider I know is Black Bear Cabins based out of Blue Ridge -- Unicoi might be able to provide the web site. They have the whole range from view cabins to waterfronts. The fishing out the back door of any of these is of course dependent on how well the owners are managing their stretch of creek or river.
For that teaching location, I recommend the Toccoa River just outside McCaysville at Horseshoe Bend Park. This area is great on a Sunday morning without the overhead green tunnels of the smaller waters, and very easy to step into. There are picnic table and benches so even putting the waders on is easier, and, they have flush toilets. The water here is wide with both running shallows and some deep runs as well. Try a dry with a yellow body against the far bank.
I had one particularly fine early summer Sunday morning and as I was coming out of the water stopped and chatted with a very nice older lady who was there for an extended family reunion picnic. In brief, I wound up spending about two more hours next to the river getting to know some of the local folks and eating some of the best fried chicken you ever tasted.
This cabin is on the Toccoa with stairs leading down to the river. My family and I stayed there a few days over a spring break back in 2003. I also second the endorsement of "Horseshoe Bend Park". When we were there it was pretty easy wading and great fishing. The cabin link is below.
God Bless,
Mike
