So I've been reading as much info about the Cohutta WMA and was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on the ins & outs of Conasauga River Access. I don't mind the hiking in, but I'd rather spend most of my time on the water. Any suggestions on trailheads to use and info on good stretches of river would be greatly appreciated.

I've Fished the Conasauga Many times. Best Access is Hickory Creek Trail It's about a 2-3 mile hike in, but it's pretty easy. Whatever you do don't take tearbritches trail. It's like walking stairs.

As far as fishing goes it's tough!! I usually fish the area downstream from where Hickory Creek Trail meets the Conasaga river trail. It's not as traveled as much and there are some good pools in that area, but they are spread apart.

It's my suggestion to make a weekend trip of it. To hike in fish and hike out all in one day is quite a haul & will limit your time on the water. It's one of the most beautiful areas of North Georgia I've ever been too and one of my favorite places to hike and camp. Trout fishing there and catching a native fish is a real bonus if you can accomplish it.

Drop me a line and let me know if I can help you out on directions and any other info.
