Here's a few shots of the rod I just finished for The Endless Enigma. This rod wasn't quite as intricate as some that I've done lately, but overall, I really liked the way it came out. The red silk wraps (EE's idea) really looked nice on the blue Forecast blank. The rod casts like a dream, too. :)

Very nice!! I assume no color pres. on the wraps. Like the way that color scheme works. Might just steal that idea for my Forecast 8'6" 5 weght.

Danny I think you've found the perfect color scheme for a forecast blank. Maybe we can all borrow it and give you the credit somehow for coming up with it. Some like a " DF Finish " or something.

By the way nice Rod there Kid! I like the inlay. Did you turn that insert and what type of wood is it?
Give us the the skinny on the build. What wt?

I built my first rod when I was sixteen (My Mother still has it in her basement). Got all the parts (Not a Kit) for a 9ft surf rod for a birthday present to myself. Did the whole thing without any tools or Jigs. A Got a Guidebond Rod Building pamphlet at the local Bait and Tackle store (back then most of the larger tackle shops in New York carried blanks). I used a telephone book and a coffe cup to hold the tension on the thread. I held blank in my hands and turned. It turned out just fine. Nothing like taking a fish on rod you've built. When you build your first rod it be will just as beautiful as Guthooks no matter how it looks because you made it.

Today you can get a kit for under $50.00 with a video. .

Thanks for the compliments, guys, but I can't take credit for the color scheme. That was Micheal's suggestion, and I must admit I didn't think I'd like it. I was pleased with the way it turned out, though. I'll post the color number of the thread tomorrow since everyone seems to like it so well.

Ivan, yes, I turned the insert. It is California buckeye burl fitted to Struble hardware. Blank is a 7'6" 3wt with titanium carbide guides.

Nice job man.

The rod and wraps are very similar to my last rod. I still have to post those pics.
