Costas, no other compare. Did I say Costas? Costas, Costas, Costas.
Any suggestions on where to buy a good pair of polarized sunglasses?

My pair of polorized H2Optics is laying out in a street somewhere. They were clipped on my shirt last week while I was bike riding. You can have them if you can find them.
Seriously, Campmor and STP usually have good deals on sunglasses. I highly recommend the H20ptics and found them at a great deal on those sites, though that's been a while ago now.

Rob is a member of NGTO. If you get the chance to, I suggest supporting his local optical shop. Great guy and knows exactly what's right for you.

My Oakleys have been the best large dollar purchase I've made. I currently have Half-Jacket polarized. I've seen different reco's for the best lenses for fishing, but I have black mirrors because I'm light sensitive.
You can get 'em everywhere, but nowhere for a discount.

and Rob-- JAHLive here on NGTO. I recently bought 2 pair of glasses from Rob, one pair of everyday glasses and one pair of Costas. Both are prescription, and made specifically for mt needs. No other eyecare place had ever taken the time to assess my needs and craft lenses for me. And the Costas are right on. I've never had a quality pair of sunglasses before, always opting for "big box store" brands. What a difference quality makes!
Some may consider Costas a bit pricey, but you have only one set of eyes, better take care of them the best you can. :)

This is one area where being thrifty can hurt you. I've been told that cheap sunglasses without UV protection darken enough to dialate the eyes and allow far more eye-damaging rays in than no sunglasses at all. Makes sense to me.
Maui Jim's are made for use on the water. They are polorized and glare resistant both inside and out so you get no reflective glare and the lenses have a water resistant finish that helps prevent water spots. Mine are also gradient where the tint is more intense at the top and bottom of the lenses. If you think about that, that is where the sun and reflected light nail you.
I wouldn't swap mine out, even after the 7-8 years I've owned them, for any others that I've tried.

as far as the flyline is concerned unless you get some kind of a deal ........ for that price i would go to SA mastery, cortland 444 or wulff triangle taper... all better lines for the money

My wife gave me a pair of Maui Jim's for an anniversary present a couple of years back. They are great. Another advantage is the light weight.

I have a pair of Costa's that I have put through the ringer and back - love them. I also have a pair of Action Optics that I like a lot.

I have owned many pairs of polarized glasses, but none compare to H20ptix for the price. They are made by Bolle and are great glasses. They are light, relatively inexpensive (unlike Costas!!) and they work great. You couldnt get me to trade mine for a pair of Costas or oakleys any day!

The Costas I got only retailed at about $160.00.
My fathers retailed out at about the same. Both are great lenses. He bought a darker lense and I got a lighter, amber lense. We both love them, and use them on and off the water.
Considering that you can go much more expensive, and as Preacher said, you've only got one pair of eyes-- better go with the best.
After all, consider this-- buying one pair of glasses like Costas with a lifetime warranty will probably end up being MUCH cheaper than buying 10-15 cheap pairs without the security of warranty.

I'm in the market too. My brother has Costas and Oaks and I tried them this weekend. I definitely liked the Costas better. However as I'm currently broke, I can't afford either.
Has anyone tried Bolle? Campmor says they retail over $100, but they have several pairs including a pair with interchangable lenses for $40.

Costas are the Official Sunglasses of the IGFA (http://www.igfa.org).
MayberryNut-- Talk to Rob (JahLive!) about glasses. He owns a custom eyewear shop near Atlanta. I'm sure he has something to fit your needs.

I'm a big fan of the Smith/Action Optics glasses. Glass lenses=much clearer than plastic. The clearwater copper photochromatic lens (changes shade depending on the intensity of sunlight) is, in my opinion, the best for all around trout fishing. In the morning, evening, or heavy clouds/canopy, the lens lightens to see very well and on the brightest days, the lens darkens...saves me from keeping two pair of glasses in the boat/vest.
Hope this helps
James
Like James, I use Action Optics with a glass lense. I have the All-hour Brown photochromatic, and they really do work well in all light conditions.

The man said it all...H2Optix can't be beat. Priced below Costa Del Mar's (usually half the cost) but as good if not better quality. I've owned both kinds and I'll take a pair of H2Optix any day over a pair of Costas.

Amacron you have obviously hit on a thread many of us are passionate about!

Absolutely love my Action Optics all hour brown lenses. I own 2 pair. But, I think you couldn't go wrong with the Costas, either, and help support a fellow NGTO'er.
Before I shelled out $140 bucks on glasses, I'd lose the $10 drugstore glasses inside of 2 weeks. I've had these 2 for going on 3 and 5 years, respectively.
You sure learn how to take care of them.

Totally agree BK. The care you take of something is in direct correlation with the cost.
I love my Costas
If your going to invest a good bit of money in glasses - I'd get a strap too. I guess thats common sense but the idea only occured to me after mine fell into Smith's creek a couple of weeks ago. I could not find them so I assume they are still there. Great thread to start since I am in the market again (going real low budjet).

Bass Pro Shops has a nice selection of Costa Brand straps, as well as many nice ones from other companies.
That reminds me. If you're at Discovery Mills Mall and you're looking for glasses, don't go the Sunglass Hut (or whatever their sunglass store is)-- go to Bass Pro (http://www.basspro.com). They have a great selection of Costas.
If you can't make it to a fly shop or Rob's shop, Bass Pro is a great place to try some lenses and even make a purchase. Go local if you can, though.

Bass Pro is local and Sunglass Hut is not?
They are both out-of-towner owned and just franchises.

At least parts of Bass Pro's income goes torward fishing.
I believe I said: "Go local if you can, though."
Like I said, just a suggestion.

I bought a pair of Orvis ones at Unicoi about 4 years ago or so, because I left my others at home. I love them and they were only about $40.
Black frames, awesome glasses and they wrap around somewhat, as to not let the light in.
