I finshed the 7'9' forecast rod last night. All I have left to do is finish off the wraps with some Gudebrod.

I decided to test cast it but I didn't have any three weight line. I had two choices. String it with 4 wt or 2 wt. I typically use 4 wt on my current 3 wt. I put the rod in my hand without a reel on it and shaked it a little. I said to myself "lets try the 2 wt line". I put it on and took the rod outside for a little testing. Boy was I was surprised. Not only did it cast the two weight well but it behaved as if the rod should have had a 2 wt designation or least 2/3 wt. I cast it at 10, 20 and 40 ft. It loaded easily at all distances and I was able throw controlled loops at all distances with very little effort. I don't own any fast rods; I'm not conditioned to push my casts so I wasn't putting anything extra into my casts. It just handled the 2 wt line very well.

I know I was out there casting way to long with those unfinished wraps but it was hard to stop myself. It was that sweet.

Got one of those 7'9' Forecast rods try some 2wt on it. I think you might be plesantly surprised.

A 7'9" 2 wt at that price how sweet is that!

I may just try that with mine. I've got that very same rod. My reaction with a 3 wt line was that the rod felt somewhat slow and lazy. Maybe that is the answer, the 2 wt line might freshen it a little.

I guess it can't hurt to try it.

Mike please let me know how that works. The reason I thought about using the 2 wt really was that I tried a 7'6' 3 wt forecast at the Orvis Tent sale that someone built. He put 3 wt double taper on it and it did seem to overload the rod to me. The rod did cast well but the line did slow it down considerably.

i tried mine with a 3DT line as well and my impression was exactly the same as yours. The rod cast fine but felt heavy and sluggish.

Right now I don't own a 2 wt. line so It'll probably be a while before i get one (and another spool for my BBSII) But it's definitly on my TO DO list.
