Has anyone ever used one of those 7 piece pack rods? Was thinknig of getting a blank from H&H.
Are they really stiff? or does it feel like a real rod? What's your opinions?

Don't tell me there in! Mike H&H just started selling them in the last couple of days. They may have been available from another supplier but I was not aware of anyone else having those blanks. They break down to 15 1/2 inches. At the price its worth a look.

I really don't need another project But.................

I have a 7' 6pc 1wt built on a Dan Craft Sig IV blank, and it's smooth, medium action rod. It won't cast 60', but it's a good small stream pack rod that will throw nice loops. I'd like to hear more about the new Forecast blanks, as well.

"Are they really stiff?

If the question is do the mulitple short pieces and ferrules add stiffness, the answer is not necessarily. With the progress in ferrule design and construction, a designer can keep the action they intend - slow, fast or in-between. They can be real, functioning rods. imo, the light weight Lamiglass "honey colored" glass pack rods are great small stream rods. They can be real duds. The longer, heavier "honey colored" rods are dogs (imo).

This brings up the question of does the H&H pack rod have the action/feel design you want in a rod of the length and weight you are looking to build. I'm pretty sure that if you talk to Bob at H&H he can tell you his thoughts on the action of the specific length/weight blank in which you are interested. Plus, because unfortunantly action and feel are currently not very granular and subjective, he has a great return policy.

btw, if you do build out a 7 piece, plan ahead for ferrule alignment marks that helps organize the pieces and putting them together, in stream side shade, at dusk. Don't ask how I know.
