I just got all my components for my 7wt. I have never added a fighting butt to any of my rods so im a little lost with it. It is a removable butt so there is a peice that fits into the reel seat does it also need to go into the butt or the blank? If so its to big what do i do? Josh

First, see if the tang of the insert for the removeable fighting butt will fit into the butt end of your rod. If it is a 7 wt, it probably will not.

If it does, just seat everything like you normally would.

If it doesn't, you will have to cut an amount equal to the length of the tang off of the lower end of your butt section. You do this so that after you have assembled the reel seat and the insert for the removeable fighting butt the butt scetion is the same length as the other sections of the rod. If you don't, the bottom section of the finished rod will be longer by the length of the tang.

Make sure your fits are tight, and assemble it with plenty of rod bond. You won't have a problem.

BTW, make sure you put a plug of tissue paper into the end of the insert before you push it into all the epoxy you have put into the reel section so it doesn't ooze up into the threads preventing you from being able to screw the fighting butt all the way in. I learned this one the hard way.
