View Full Version : Wright McGill Fly Rods
Does anybody fish or know anything about these rods. Made by the same people who make the fine Granger rods. My son just pick up the 4 piece 7'6" 3 wt.

Never used their rods, however I have used their other products. Very well made. Looks like a nice buy.

The granger rod company started about 1918. In about 1931 Mr Granger died and his family leased his name to Wright & Mcgill so they could make the old bamboo rods.Around 1941 Wright & McGill bought the name and made bamboo rods under it untill about 1955. They also made some glass rods. In 2002 I recieved a license to start making the Granger bamboo rods again you may want to look at my web site at www.grangerbamboo.com. Wright & Mcgill owns Eagle Claw now. If you have other questions you can give me a call.

Thanks Gary. Excellent work. I appreciate the history. Keep it coming. I'm sure the boo heads will appreciate your presence here in Georgia as do I.
Where you at the Dreamland get together?
I own a Granger Aristocrat(rated for a HDH) which I bought in 1949 with a Langley single action reel and a silk double taper line from a company in Sweden---I was just going into the 10th grade.I still use the rod and the reel,
the silk line gave up the ghost in 65-----not bad for a silk line that recieved no special care.

Are these the next genration of the Eagle Claw rods that evryone on the board was interested in about a year ago. Those rods were much much cheaper, around $45 if I recall correctly, but were pretty plain jane.
They look like a nice rod for the money, nickle silver fittings, LEATHER case.

Wright & McGill is now making a nice line of graphite rods at reasonable prices. Check out their web site.

Mike: Yes this is an effort to become a another player in the high quality low to mid priced fly rod arena(Sort of like St Croix a few years back). Unfortunately they have not put a lot of cash behind the marketing (at least on the east coast) yet. It is a great rod.
Do check out the website. Cabelas carries thier bags.
