Anybody use the SA nymph line? I ordered some the other day for my nymph rod and was curious if anyone had any comments on it?

Sorry--I've never tried one of those. SA makes pretty good stuff tho--so you will prob be happy with it.

I used the Rio Nymph on the S. Holston and Doe Rivers in TN this past week. It's a good line with a VERY high floating, flourescent orange tip. It false casts poorly because of all the weird tapers in the last few feet (the tip section just sort of flops around) but roll casts weight and big indicators nicely. All-in-all, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy another simply because I rarely stick to just flopping heavy or wind resistant rigs around.
The one high point of that line is the high floating tip... not enough of a benefit considering you lose something while overhead casting and the presentation is less than delicate.
Bottom line? It's too specialized for how and where I fish.

I like it for short-range "chuck'n'duck" stuff and roll casting with a weighted rig. It rolls like no other line I've cast, even the TT. For nymph rigs, it's great. For casting any significant distance, it bites. It'll get out there, but when it lands you might as well have thrown a rock... not exactly made for delicate presentations.

Very specialized line, it has its uses so I think you'll be happy with it, just forget the dry flies....

No, i wouldn't use this to fish dries, it will be nymphs only. I have a Joan Wolf triangle taper for dry flies.

We'll see how it does.

Thanks!

I love my Nymph 4wt line. It is great for making short casts, and like BG said, it Roll Casts like no other. I agree totally. I have used it with Dry flys, but it is not the most supple presentation.
I think I like the fact that it loads up quickly due to the larger head and also that the head floats nice as well. Casting this line versus standard WF with weighted flys/nymphs - you will notice a difference.

Just get 2 spools for your reel and you can have this line when fishing weighted flys and switch out if your gona fish Drys and need the supple presentation.

Good Luck!
