Hello from another newbie! I am from central Alabama, where the water is a little warm for trout, even in the tailwaters of Lake Martin. I used go trout fishing when I was younger and my family would vacation in Helen or elsewhere in the mountains, but I haven't been much lately. I plan on going back to Helen sometime this summer, and trout will definitely be high on the agenda. In the past, I fished the 'Hooch through Helen, but I would like to explore some if I have a chance. I know I will be taking an ultralight spinning outfit, and maybe a fly rod in case I want to experiment. I would appreciate any pointers, especially as to good spots where I won't catch a limit of tubers. Also, is the son of the pharmacist in Helen is on this board? I remember talking to him the last two times I have been there (about ten years apart, the last time in November 1997, when it was very cold) and he was a good source of information.

Welcome aboard; from another bama guy!
I own a very nice spinning outfit; problem I have, it has gotten very dusty since I picked up a Fly Rod!

Welcome Aardvark. North GA has lots of great trout waters. The Hooch is agood palce to fish. But you can avoid many of hte people by simply moving upstream. Go up the National Forest portion, and there will be no tubers, and fewer fishermen the further up you go. Lots of other great stream in the area as well.
