I usually wet wade using Orvis's Wet Wading Shoes, which I generally prefer over wading sandles because of the ankle support for wading rockier streams. Basically they are simply a mid top wading shoe with a neoprene sock insert.

The problem comes when I wear them on longer hikes off the river as the elastic band at the top of the neoprene sock does not keep all water out and sometimes I will get bad heel rubs. Not sure if anyone else has ever used these shoes or something similar, but I'm looking for suggestions to cut down on the heel rubs because otherwise I really like the shoes for wading and short distance hiking.

I've thought about wearing quick dry hiking socks under the neoprene sock and also maybe getting a pair of the watertight neoprene socks that REI sales. Any suggestions?

I wear a pair of thin nylon dress socks under my wet wading socks. These don't absorb much water and provide a barrier between your foot and the neoprene. I've never had a blister while wet wading, and I fish a number of streams that require some hiking in or out.

have you tried moleskin?

Haven't tried moleskin - not sure how the adhesive would react to water? I'll try thin socks first and if that doesn't work give moleskin a try.

thanks for the suggestions.

Man, that's high tech, wet wading shoes. I still use a old pair of kicks.

Instead of dress socks use a cut off pair of panty hose. They'll fit tighter and blisters will be less likely. (Plus you'll look a whole lot sportier!)

We wore them under our boots when taking extended nature walks in the USMC.

pantyhose...lol. If I try that one I'll have to keep it from my friends. Of course if marines do it then I have a good comeback ready for any taunting.
