I picked up a Rotisserie from Loews a couple of months ago. It has a octagangle turning rod. I need ideas on how to make a chuck for it.

Any suggestions ?

go and get a piece of 1" PVC connector - it's about 2 1/2 inches long. drill three holes equal distance apart at each end. Buy 6 thumb screws. at the motor end thread the screws thru the pvc and onto the rod tight but not too tight to strip the thread created by the thumb screw. On the end to hold the rod do the same thing thread the thub screw thru the pipe, but then put those rubber/plastic end caps. place the rod, tighten then to hold the rod snuggly. Mike

Or get a piece of clear plastic tubing (check the pet stores and hardware stores) about five inches long and sized so that it'll fit tightly on the octagonal piece. Make sure it's a tight and secure fit. Then cut the tubing lengthwise so it flares into four pieces. To use it, push the rod butt end into the cut pieces so that they embrace it like the petals of a flower (my, but rod building can be poetic!). It's pretty much self-centering. Wrap with masking tape to secure. Use a paper towel slip bushing around the butt end of the rod, if you wish, to allow the rod to be stopped without having to turn off the motor. It's actually a lot easier to do than to describe.

This works very well and no holes to drill. It's what I do with rotisserie motors when we use them in the rod classes, and it works like a champ.

Have fun!

Thanks Steve. Good Idea. I don't remember that design in class. That was a long time ago and memory is not what used to be.
