I know most of you are like me and fish a lot of other places :)

Except right now I'm in the process of moving, and securing a new job; so no fish for me :(

So lay down some fishing reports for those of us who cant..... :)

and am getting accustomed to the steelhead action. Saturday morning they were lined up shoulder to shoulder and there had not even been a run yet! I heard one was caught all day. I was supposed to try my new 7 wt. out this morning but I was too lazy considering the warm temps and low water. As soon as the action gets a little hotter I will let y'all know how it goes and try to send some pictures.

Sorry, Gary, this a wee bit off-topic.

When do you move, Chris? I was still under the impression you were living up here in Commerce?

Josh,
I meant to call you before I left Commerce. I took a church in Waterford, Pa. It is a full time position, so I don't have to teach. I am helping my wife homeschool the kids. The church is 20 miles out of Erie in a snow belt. I moved up in June and my wife and the kids came up in August. You doing okay? It has been hot here the past week. Almost 78! Ha! Ha! I know, I know I will pay for that in February!
I will try to keep the board posted on the steelhead season. It is all new to me and I feel like a fish out of water. I miss fishing in solitude.

Keep in touch.

I'm glad you got the job up there!

I'm sure you'll adjust to the fishing up there!

Keep in touch...

do just that. We are having a good steady rain tonight. Tommorrow could be the beginning of an infamous run!! I can't wait to see 6-15 pound steelhead jumping 4 foot waterfalls! I will let you know what happens.

Josh ;

I have been in Dalton GA for a little over a year now. As of Oct I will be a resident of Livingston TN. Yep thats right "Vol Country" :(.

The good news is that I will be 30 minutes from the Caney Fork Tailwater, and my new job is less than 2 miles from the Obey River Tailwaters. :) Also I will still be relatively close to most of my family. ( much closer than when I lived in Athens)

Glad to hear the move went smoothly! I know Chris will miss getting to fish with you often. You'll have to come down and visit with us for a little fishing sometime when things settle down.

Good to hear from you as well.

Chrisfish,

Good luck on your new opportunity in PA. It has been a pleasure talking with you, here and at Smiths. Speaking of steelhead...

I'm going to The Dalles, Oregon, on October 17th, to manage a big construction job for ~ 10 months. I will be fishing the Deschutes River, which is about 10 miles from The Dalles, for Steelies, and Red Sides (a Rainbow indiginous to only the Deschutes). The jobsite is on the banks of the Columbia River, and I've been invited to fish in a sturgeon derby with the company that we're partnering with. I'll post some reports as opportunities warrant.

fishmonger,

We had a good rain yesterday and the tribs. are coming down. It is getting cool tonight and the reports suggest we have had the first small run of steelhead. I am considering going out at first light tommorrow morning. I will let you all know how that goes.

This morning I made my way to Walnut Creek at approximately 6:45. The first hole by the stop sign was packed with people. I watched for a while since I have no idea what I am getting my self into. I watched 3 guys with fly rods have hook-ups that ended with snapped tippet. Finally a guy hooked one about 5 lbs. and we all watched as he ran down to the next hole to slow it down.
It was at this point I decided to get my waiders and fly rod and give it a shot. Might as well get initiated!
I went down to a hole that had only one person fishing in it. There was a decent pod of fish working in the pool. The guy across the pool hooked one and we watched as the fish charged him! Pretty funny watching a guy in waiders move that fast when a fish that size is coming at you!! He lost it. I put on the magic green/olive wooly bugger. WHAM!! Boy do they hit hard! I wasn't real sure what happened when he came out of the water and my tippet had already snapped!!
We are supposed to get more rain tonight, I might be out there again tomorrow morning giving it another shot! Sorry I don't have pictures, I didn't want to look like a tourist!!

This morning, September 30th, I went down to Walnut Creek and began fishing around 6:45 a.m. The water was very high and muddy still from the rain yesterday.

I caught my first Steelhead!! 22 inches and about 5 lbs.

It was fantastic. If I can figure out how to make the file smaller I will attach the picture.

Okay, I added the picture in the photo galleries section of the web site. It is under the member galleries 2nd page. It is not the biggest steelhead you will ever see, but hey, it is a start!!

I have new photos of the two my dad caught today. Let me know and I will put them up. For now I will put them in the photo gallery. I almost forgot to report! There were numbers of people today in every hole by 7:30 a.m. I was throwing a variety of flies. Many around us were using a number of natural baits incuding eggs. My dad brought down his spinning rod and in the bait shop this morning I commented that a little cleo spoon is supposed to be a good lure, so he picked one up. Good thing!! My dad caught 4 in 45 minutes on that spoon!! The last two, I don't have pictures, went between 7-9 lbs. The last one he caught made a spectacular run. We released the last two and had the ones in the pictures smoked. Overall great day!

Thanks Josh and Fishmonger! Today we were JUST LUCKY!! There were 100 other guys looking in their boxes to see if they had any spoons like the one my dad was throwing! I am sure after we left someone else got a few. We just didn't wait around long enough to find out. The nice thing about where we live is that I am only 10 minutes from Walnut and 15 minutes from Elk creeks. Those are the two main tribs.

We are not supposed to get much rain this week. That means the action will crawl to a halt. I will report again after the next rain.

Does anyone have any experience in the Tim's Ford resevoir in middle TN? I will be camping there over Thanksgiving and am hoping to wet some hooks with my boy. Thanks!
