I made an early morning run up to Curtis Switch today and had a a close encounter with a deer in the river. I was fishing just past that little island downstream of the boat launch parking area. I heard some splashing down river and looked up and saw a medium size doe walking in the river, heading straight towards me.

I figured she would see me soon enough and turn, but the deer kept coming towards me. I stood as still as a statue and that deer got within twenty feet of me before it finally realized a human was in the water with her. Her eyes about bugged out of her head :yikes: when she finally saw me and she turned tail and ran down river as fast as she could. There were a couple guys up river from me that witnessed the whole thing, and they were laughing their heads off.

Oh yeah, quick fish report: so-so day by Toccoa standards. I caught 10 trout in 6 hours of fishing. Also, nothing but Chubs on nymphs, all the trout were caught on dry's! None of the trout were very big, but I was using my 2 weight, so even the 10 inch stockers are fun to catch.

I can see it now! Just the thought of it makes me laugh...

Especially since this has happened to me before! Except, my situation was on land, thankfully.

Thanks for the report! They're always appreciated.

I had a doe swim across the hooch toward me at Settles Bridge and come to ground within a foot of me. Got sprayed with water when she shook...

I was at Curtis Switch at daybreak with my dad and we saw a beaver that I thought was a small deer at first. It was HUGE!!

Had a large doe pass between my dad and I during a very early morning fog on the far reaches of the upper Toccoa last year. We were a good 100yds apart and she crossed the entire river right between us. I think she was oblivious. Maybe deer hunters should stand in the stream rather than sitting in a tree.

I spotted a doe in that area a few years ago with a fawn. She hid the fawn in some brush and walked straight at me. She came within 50' of me, snorted at me, and then calmly turned and walked back to her fawn. They slowly walked out of sight.

This is strange, but I believe that doe is very curious about humans.
