View Full Version : stripers in the hooch
Hi,
Heard Heny Cowan on the Oneill Williams this morning say he heard stripers were in the hooch at cobb pkwy and 41 bridge. Said you guys were on top of the news. Is this true and if so, how long until they reach further upstream?
Has any one landed one yet?
Thanks,
JScott

Stripers in the DH? If that's true will the feed on the trout there?

Hmmmm....might be a few thousand opportunities for a striper's dinner.
If stripers are moving upstream into the DH sections, then you'd expect they have done so in previous years after a major stocking. So, I wonder how many trout are lost to striper predation each year after stocking? Or is this a new behavior?

An unidentified angler was reeling in a trout at Paces Mill Friday when a large striper came in and consumed the trout. Not sure how many stripers have made it that far north but this story was passed along.

DNR is stocking them in West Point again. Supposedly the Gulf strain which can survive the shallow inpoundment/lack of oxygen summers on WP.
Should about kill the DH in the future up to Morgan Falls, which strikes mixed emotions from my stand point.

I also heard....
An Atlanta man has been charged with harassing Great White sharks in Chattahoochee National Forest recreational area just north of the Morgan Falls Dam.
The man, who may not be named until he has pleaded in court, was towing a rubber decoy designed to look like a baby seal behind his jet boat, apparently to attract Great Whites.
Two tour operators working on boats around the area saw the man and alerted game wardens.
Bill, chief inspector for Buford hatchory, said he had waited for the man to return to the boat ramp at Johns Brige.
"He and his friend were on board. The guy came off carrying a bag and when I searched it, I found the decoy. It was made of pink rubber and cut out to look like a seal. It was about the same size as a baby seal. It has a nice bite mark on it. "

Yep, the stripers are in there. We fished for them yesterday with no luck. Did see two fish, had a few nice shoal bass hit. The stripers are all throughout the DH, from the dam to 41. Look for the pods of fresh trout to bring the stripers in.
Big flies. Sink tips.

:yikes: Ole Man,
18" stockers would help both the striper and trout fishermen!!!
Would need a 10wt for those holdover Browns :D

If they be big stripers, even those 18" browns could be nothin but B.A.I.T. :yikes:
Just remember that striper photo that Kent posted a little while back. It wasn't just a stirper it was a "drag'in".
