Took some advice from the message board and headed up to Dukes around 10:30. They had a bunch of no shows so I rigged up and started fishing a little after 11. Fished section 1 and the heavy rain and fog certainly brought some big fish out to play. Landed 9 for the afternoon, with a fat 22 1/2 inch bow being the biggest landed. Also managed a 20 1/2 and an 18, and a bunch of fish in the 12-15 inch range. Fished with John Rice in one particular run and both hooked 2 big fish in the 22-24 inch range and lost all of them. Overall it was a great day of fighting fish, and the rain kept the anglers away so I had all of section 1 to choose from. Can't wait to get back there next Sunday and try to land some of those big ones that got away. Also fished with my new Orvis Tailwater XT waders and loved them, I highly recommend them to anyone who is in the market for a nice pair of top notch waders!

in my opinion is when it is raining. I have rain gear and when I head up there I pray for rain. I have killed those bigger fish on section 1 when it rains. I am no biologist but it seems to me they can't see you so they bite anything thrown at them.

I saw some pics of the monsters he (John Rice) and his sister landed a while back. You'd do well by following him around up there.

Yeah, the rain and rising water definetely get the bigger fish to let their guard down. The water was at a great level, much better than the last time i fished it almost a month ago when it was bone dry and clear as gin. This is pretty much the case on any river, the nastier it is and the fewer people the more and bigger fish you catch. This is particularly try for steelhead in michigan....pick out the nastiest day on the forecast and you will hook the most fish. John and his sister ceratainly do catch some beauties out of that stream....and as of the past year or two i have had similiar results. Has anyone else noticed how much better the fishing has been the past two years than in years past. Way more fish with way bigger fish, tough to beat anywhere in the country.

If you can get a spot to fish. I think it is a great place to catch trophy trout. Ans best of all it's free. Last year I fished all day and didn't get a bite but about 30 min before I had to quit I landed a 31" Bow. Worth every sore muscle. I bet I walked the entire creek from section 4 to 1 and back again and landed the bow in section 2. The 3 of us were the only people there after 1 PM. I'll be up there on Christmas Eve if anyone here will be there. I'll be driving a black Yukon with dealer plates. I hope it rains...lol
