Well, Spinerboy & BrandonT are still fishing, I had to come in and count my fingers, their thawing and looks like I have all 10...
wait till we post the pictures of the Bow's...
Spinerboy caught a trout the size of a steelhead, when they get back up to the house we'll snap off some pictures.. Spinerboy started giving me the fish he caught until he landed the big boy, he said its going on the wall..
Stay tuned for the pic's...

I didn't actually keep it. Gave it to Mossy....He wanted them to eat. With the trout farm upstream, I don't see the river struggling. That's really the only reason that fish was in there. I think Mossy and Brandon will agree. My friends at NGTO have encouraged a C&R lifestyle that I tend to follow. I promise I'll release them all at Duke's on Wednesday so you can catch them again :D

If you ever float down the river you will be going thru a gauntlet of fish feeders on both sides of the river, so I dont think the ones we caught yesterday will effect the population of the bruisers that are still there.
Like I said earlier, about 150 yards up stream from my portion of the river is a Trout club, they charge $150 bucks aday for C&R..
and I know for a fact that they are bigger ones in here..
Its like dukes creek only much closer to home, and since the private trout club cant put leashes on their fish, well, thx mother nature.
Are you able to float thru all these sections up river from you?? I mean with the pay to fish upstream, are you able to float thru them?? Know nothing about the river and was just wondering... Is it as private as say the soque river?? Do you have many people floating the river??

I was only giving you a hard time. As long as someone's gonna eat them I see no problem with keeping a few now and then. I can't wait to try it myself.
You know, if you weighed the fish and got some measurements, you can get a mount of that fish for your wall. That was definitely a trophy fish.

Yes you are able to float down it, it is an awesome kayak river, spinerboy I believe is going to float down it in his pontoon..
And yes you are able to go thru the gauntlet of houses on the river with the many fish feeders...

But don't you have to get permission from somebody to put in somewhere? If one was to plan a float trip on the Cartecay, where would you put it/take out?
MossyOak
12-20-05, 03:10 PM
you put in up Roy rd from hwy 52 about 6 miles ( macedonia bridge ) concrete bridge.....go thru 1st stop sign, then macedonia bridge will be about 1/2 mile. No permission neccessary to put in or float down it..
Taking out could be at my hse ( I'm on the river ) or down further at a washed out bridge that you can drive to.
Call me & I'll take you to where you put in & you can park your vehicle where you take out at..

I am curious where the river is. I have a friend who has a cabin near Ellijay. Been trying to get him to try fly fishing, and he is interested, and says there are some places up near him. Is Cartecay near Ellijay? What is the skinny on the river, put-ins/take-outs? Is it wade-able? Any info would be appreciated (don't expect you to give away the farm!) that I might find a place close to where he is and spend a day on the river. Thanx in advance.

Yes the Cartecay is in Ellijay, its where I live....
The Cartecay is a year round trout river, yes you can wade it & float it..is put in, easy take out.
Look at the other post on here from me and see yesterdays fishing adventure we had..I'd be glad to invite you, great guys on this forum and as far as secret fishing holes, I enjoy fishing with people who enjoy the art of fishing like I do...You can go in at my property and fish all you want...
just ask SpinerBoy & BrandonT...
Just punch in my address on map quest and it will take you right to the Cartecay:

looks like the worms are out and squirming.....Maybe you should start a sign up sheet like Smithgall-Woods.
DO7,
I did make sure to get the measurements but I don't think the wife will go for more than 1 mount per year. If you check out my thread under "ask the experts" about identifying some brookies you can see the largemouth I just got back from the taxi in Sept.
Interested persons,
Mossy is quite hospitable, doesn't even charge the average $150 but bring your back support because you could be in for some heavy lifting ;)

Mossyoak,
How deep is your section of the "Garrett's River"? I am still trying to figure out when I can make it up there to haul in some of those trout club runaways!

I went to the steele bridge this afternoon, man,I swear its colder there than it is at my house, geeesh, talk about freezing.....
I know it looks good on the ami, but I guess I favor the cartecay, much puurdier and the trout are much much bigger...
PS, I bought me and my wife a pair of breathables along with some wade boots, Santa sure is giving this year ;)
I'll have to save my Old Red Dots for duck hunting....
Saturday will be a good day for fishing ;)
Thx Spinboy for the wobbler's, dont worry dude, I'll save some 22 inchers for you...CnR from now on.....

Can't tell you how much I appreciate the invite. Depending, I might just take you up on the offer after Christmas. I may take a couple of days that week, camp in Helen/Unicoi in the RV, lv the wife to read and watch chic flics, and fish the Tallualh, Smith, (maybe) Dukes, some small broookie streams, ????
Either way, I either come up and see you one day, or we meet up near Helen to fish for the day, then sit around a campfire at night and tell lies, ...er ... I mean, fish stories, sip a little, smoke a stoggie, etc. I plan on doing some fishing one way or the other that week! Stay tuned.
Steve
PS: All who read this, pls take a look at the "Happenings" Topic and specifically my "Vets Fish for Recovery" post. This is something that is real special to me, and I would like to see the idea come to fruition. Thanx
