Which direction should I go on foot after parking the car? Should I go North or South of where it crosses the river?

I've never been downstream, but I'm told the fishing is better.

It's not stocked upstream of the bridge, so that explains why the fishing might be better downstream.

There are some beautiful browns upstream, and some beautiful holes and runs. If you do go upstream, stay on the right side. Trail follows all the way up to the state line and beyond; on the left side it gets too steep and too grown up in some places.

I guess I'll flip a coin when I get there. I don't think I could go wrong in either direction. I just want to catch a fish or two and enjoy the scenic surroundings. Would a shorter rod be better for the upper section? I'm wondering what rod to bring. Thanks!

You can use a 9 foot all the way up to the state line no problem. Its still a big river, never less than 40 feet wide.

Very big. You could probably use a 19' rod.
