View Full Version : Atlanta's Fly Fishing Expo 2005
If you are interested in hanging out at the Atlanta Fly Fishing Expo and talking fishing with folks at an NGTO booth, let me know.
http://www.castlow.com/gaswfe.html
It's sort of a catch-22 that I don't want to ask the organizers unless I know somebody wants to do it.
It pretty much involves doing the same thing you do here (talking fishing, tying flies). But you hang out at the expo instead and do it. NGTO will pick up your entry fee as a small perk.
Post here or email me.
Thanks.

EG, I can man the booth for part of Saturday. Last year I met such interesting characters, I can't wait to see what happens this year!
Don
Your supposed to correct me when I'm wrong. Nobody else noticed I had the wrong year.
If nobody saw it yet, I fixed it.
Too funny, I am able to edit the title of the first post but it doesn't seem to change the title in the forum. Oh well.

I should be able to be in the booth for awhile on Saturday. AM or PM does not matter.
Just to confirm, we got the OK from Mark Castlow for a booth back over the holidays. I just have been caught up in a few other things the last week. I'll send out an email to the folks that responded to set up schedules.
Everybody that gets a chance, stop by and introduce yourself. It's great to put faces with names.

The Hudson entourage needs to change from Saturday to Sunday, starting after noon. Son Nathan made it to final auditions for the All-State band, and said auditions are in Perry, Ga., on Saturday ... so we'll be merrily rolling down I-75 and back on Saturday!
Thanks,
Steve

Tell Nathan congratulations! Several of my friends who are in band (Jackson County's band is best in state, btw) made the All-State Band, and a few made it to a national audition!
EG - I can work the booth Sat morning - I can bring some rod building stuff for a demo - Mike Popick

Mossy and I can work the booth a little earlier in the day now since I've changed my plans some. Tmick32 has been downgraded to maybe for the afternoon.

Also, I took a batch of about 50 programs to Jimmy last week. If anyone would like a preshow program and will be in the area, please stop by there. If any Athenites would like a program, contact me.

Ken started fishing at age 4 and just can't seem to put that pole down. He's a charter member (#263) of Bass Anglers Sportsman's Society and claims to own every issue of BassMasters magazine. His angling skills are superb. Be sure to stop by his booth and say hello but be careful...bass fishing is addictive.

This may be a dumb question, but is there a giant fly shop at this thing? I would prefer to buy tying materials in person versus the catalogues.

....depends on what vendors bring along for sale. Sometimes some interesting materials though.

for tying flies. I was there as they were setting up and they have tons of stuff there. I saw the Fishhawks store there as well and they had tons of stuff as well. I didn't even walk around much I was too busy trying to set up, but I'm sure there will be plenty of stuff there.

For the expo. It was great to meet so many NGTO'ers. I hope my presence at the booth was sufficient today...There were so many people in there Mossy and I couldn't get behind the table to really put in our time. I guess that means it has been successful so far though. Man, Runner's rods are beauties! I love those birch handles. The show itself was rather small and why it deserved only a 6. It was wild to see so many people crowd around Lefty.
Lurkers...Show yourselves. I met quite a few of you there. Join in and get the full experience :D

Hats off to Runner for bringing his rod building stuff to the NGTO booth! Talk about filling a niche that was empty!!!! He demo'ed and taught wrapping so much he didn't have time to take a sip of water.
Thanks too to Chuck Morris, who pitched in and helped teach. Including teaching Runner and me his trim wrap tip.
It was great to see old friends, and terrific to meet new folks. And thanks to the GA River Fishers that introduced themselves, too.

Making this the second annual Father/Daughter fishing expo trip with my daughter Gloria. Nice seeing some of yall there again this year. Runner, My daughter was talking about those rods of yours all the way home. Might have to see what you can put together for her little hands. Unlike my trip there last year you couldn't get near the table this year. Must have been the fact that they had folks trying there hand at something useful instead of have that B-Karma fella hawking hats and pins. LOL  :yikes:
B-Karma, TELL ME WHAT YA KNOW!!!!!! I'm off monday and was thinking bout heading for the dam in the afternoon. YA UMP TO?

Had to miss the expo - work certainly does interfere sometimes. And it was time to let someone else expound on the virtues of NGTO.........
Too much rain today to fish - not to mention the T-storms - so the fish get a rest. Maybe next time.

"I think we're gonna need a bigger booth."
Man, there were people everywhere! We really need a larger spot or maybe a corner booth so we can have 2 tables. Runner stole the show with his rods (I really want the one with the jade reel seat). Steve tying flies, meeting ALL of those lurkers! C'mon guys...join up!! All in all it was a great show. Thanks to Jeff and Jimmy for taking time with Levi and me. Charles Ivey for tying Levi's "secret" Buggers. Everyone that came by the Royal Automotive Group area and said hello. Man, I had no idea that the Solstice would get that much attention!
I know one thing: My butt is draggin' this morning! I walked and stood and my ol' knees are aching but it was worth it.
You NGTO guys and gals are allright with me!

I had a great time at "our first" exhibit at the expo! I was unable to get around and visit much, but was able to get to the NGTO booth once, but was only able to give firewalker a hard time ;) . It was great meeting everyone that stopped by our booth, which BTW was surrounded by the Orvis booth, the Unicoi booth, and the Fish Hawk booth! Thank you to Lefty who was gracious enough to hang around our booth for awhile for photos and signing books. I'm already looking foward to next year! :D
