A relatively slow day on the Cartecay today...Caught close to 20 fish, all bows. 20 is a good number but we worked hard for them. MossyOak, BrandonT and Tmick32 were all contributors. 3 18" fish and one 20" hook jaw that was a pink salmon-looking something caught by the host. See link below.

Garret, I made you a hard copy of both pics of your fish on my photo printer...the close up turned out fuzzy. Remind me to get those to you.

Thanks Mossy for a great day on the river. Dad said he would get you an invite for the opening day of dove season if you are interested. Thanks again.

PS I will be needing a paramedic and a couple changes of cloths for my next visit. :yikes:

I had a blast yesterday, though I am sore as heck, these old bones cant do what they used to do !
I bet Todd is sore today, they boy fell for all of us...
Thx for the pictures, hopefully BrandonT will post the big one you caught yesterday..
Holler at me later dude..

Yup, it was another great time. The fish weren't as active as I thought they would be, but some nice ones were caught. I felt bad watching Todd fall in the river. I've never seen anyone fall in the river twice in one day  Was it cold? It sure looked cold :D Here's the pic of Spinboy and his fish...

If it makes you feel any better...One day I was trying to find a spot to get in on the hooch up by Buford Dam and the whole shelf on the rivers edge gave way. I fell fifteen feet through thorns and wound up cold, wet, dirty, and bloody. I fished anyway, but worried about getting a nasty infection from the Hooch water.

dang, I'd either been pee'd off or laughed till I cried..
Good thing you didnt break any bones..
The last fall that Todd did yesterday was so funny looking, I had a birds eye view of it, standing on a flat rock in the middle of the river, he was trying to get out and tripped over the obvisous log that was there, hey..I saw it from my view ;) Needless to say he was doing push-ups trying to get out of the water, I normally wait till I find out if my buddies are ok before I laugh, but this time Todd looked so funny & he got so pee'd off he thru his spin rod on the bank, I laughed then ask if he was ok.. :D
Then earlier Spinboy fell , it looked like it hurt, I had to grab my mouth, mumble, hey, you ok?? then busted out laughing... :D
Spinboy or BrandonT will have to tell the play by play on Todd's other fall, it went something like" Help ! I've fallen and can't get up ! " :D :D :D
Unfortunately I didn't see it..... :p
Overall, you guys are some great friends...
BrandonT even got treated with dinner, Pork Roast, homemade mashed taters, english peas, homemade buttermilk biscuits and sweet tea.
Ya should have stayed for dinner SPinboy & Todd !
Mossy, have any free time to fish tomorrow or Sat?? I know Fishmonger is needing to get into some fish before he heads back to the cold and wet NW.. Not sure if he's interested in riding shotgun with me or not. I know we were going to try and get out on the boat this weekend but the Hooch release schedule is leaving us very little options :bang:

Yes sir...
Tomorrow I was thinking about taking my wife, let her try out her new waders & wade boots..She's never caught a trout before...
How about saturday??
Hopefully it will be better than yesterday, though yesterday was a blast, the big bow I caught was fun to catch..
I was standing in waist deep water, threw out about 20 ft, watch him go down stream and pick it up and take off up stream, then I hollered to Spinboy & Brandon, setting hook, watch out..
Was definately a blast, especially when I saw how big he was, 4 lb test makes ita challenge...

Ok twist, twist, twist.
Your invited for saturday..
Ol SPinboy caught a nice bow yesterday on the fly that looks like a pellet.. :D
I looked for your fly box when we were down river, but no luck....
Cool.... I'll check with the boss and see if it's ok with her.. Is it ok if I get Fishmonger to tag alone if he's up for it?? Not sure what his schedule is for Sat but i'm game :)

I have to work plus I have promised The Fantasy Goddess that I won't fish again until 8JAN so I have to honor my word. PLUS we got a little good news yesterday...took the ultrasound and it's a GIRL!! So I have to do a little shopping with her, too. Last 2 were boys so we need to get some stuff for little Isabella Leah Adams. I'll take you up on it after I go to SWG and fish Dukes on the 8th.

I think I have a better idea than I sign-up sheet. How about C&R and a donation box for a new trout feeder!
Yeah, I took a quick spill but thanks to Santa Clause and my new Orvis wading jacket, I didn't get wet. Todd, on the other hand....his first fall was nasty. I attribute it to an already ailing hammy bc I know he was hurting when we went the week before. I looked back and all I saw were his hands, his face and the bill of his cap...

Donations to get a fish feeder so we can keep these big boys fat and sassy..
Good idea too me, any takers??
Those that donate would reap the rewards...
I am checking into getting the DNR bring in some bigger release fish at my area of the river, with a fish feeder there feeding them they would stay close to play the catch me game..
what is your thoughts?
Could get some of you fella's help this old man help me make acouple log jams in my private section between the islands, help build some deep holes only the few, the proud, the chosen ones know about
I'd pitch in for sure.. Just say when..

ok guys, those that want to help in the log jammin..
I need a chain saw, some long chains ( to drag logs with 4 wheeler )
I have the 2 stroke gas/oil..
This log jammin time will have to be on a week-end and it will have to be after January 13th ( I'll be in Dallas,Tx the next 2 weeks )
I am thinking the work shouldn't take to long with enuff guys helping we should be able to get what we want..Then fish afterwards the afternoon or the sunday, and of course set up other times to fish...
I need to get a feeder, this fish up here are used to the auto feeders and I think if we make the deep holes, get a feeder, this should keep them in the area.. I am getting with DNR to find out what it will take to get them to bring in some stockers at my section on the river, I know the DNR have 16 - 20 inchers or more they release, it may cost me acouple hundred bucks but it would be worth it...
So lets all keep in touch, when I get back from Dallas, we'll set a week-end and get the log jams setup for OUR future fishing..
Now I'm open for other inputs as well.............
Oh those that arent aware of my area , there is a trout club up stream about 150 yrds, they are feeding and buying trout from the DNR as well, so with enuff areas like this all that are willing to help out can keep enjoying catching big quality fish..
:D
Would anyone be so kind as to giving me the best directions to decent spots on the Cartecay, say from Elijay?
Cheers
Swalo

ANd yes, I will be fishing with you guys, afterall, fishing is what we like to do right? Ya think I'm letting you get to do all the fun...? NOT !
I love this river, thats why its so hard to go anywhere else...
I wake up, go out on my deck, start staring at the river in front of me, and before you know it, I'm getting my waders & rod..
The last few weeks I have gone with SPinboy, Dad of 7, BrandonT, Tmick, and I am really getting to know where each boulder, rock, hole, log, etc..
And where the big boys are waiting...
Wife and I will let you know this afternoon on the catches of the day

As for being Whipped....let me see....hmmmmm....
I get up for work and my wife fixes me coffee and breakfast. Then she sends me out the door with a kiss and a smile as she hands me my lunch, homemade, of course.
She calls me in the afternoon to find out what time I'll be home so supper will be ready, still homemade. No boxes of Hamburger Helper in my pantry. I sit down to dinner and she makes sure my tea glass is always full and cleans up the dining room and kitchen while I take a hot shower. She picks up my clothes off the bathroom floor and takes them to the laundry room and when I get home the next day, those clothes will be clean and hanging in my closet or in my drawer.
Oh, and she ain't hard to look at, either ;)
SOOOOOOO...to answer your question...YES!!! I am whipped and lovin' it!! :D
I hereby make the first $20 donation to the trout feeder.
Luke gave me your number and I'll call ya in a sec..
And now we know why he's called DAD OF 7!!!.... :D

which it ain't, but if it was I'd get a solar feeder. I'll check on the price. And be sure to have a way to keep it from being stolen. Maybe dig a few feet down and pour concrete and sink some eye hooks and chain it down.
I'll get with you and will help you with the design and construction.

So is the plan to create a barrier to keep the fish in Mossy's back yard? And feed them. This is really going to turn out like a little trout club! Count me in for helping! :D
Not a barrier, but a pool creating structure to help give them a rest between meals ;)

There is a guy on here named Daniel Boone, he has a really sweet place in N. Carolina. He own both sides of a creek up there for a couple hundred yards. He stocked it himself and fed them. He also built them stream up in such a way that even with hard rains he usually didnt lose any fish. Im not sure how he did it but he had some HOGS in that creek. I caught a bow that was about 3 pounds. I know for a fact he had one that was close to 10 pounds. And a WHOLE BUNCH of 3-6 pounders. It was awsome!

When I get back from Dalls in 2 weeks, I'll let everyone know, we'll make a game plan, have whoever is interested, come up, build some structures to hold fish, put up acouple of feeeders and then...
If we build it, they will come....
Skibum & firewalker just left, they love the place, they caught some nice bos and browns today,, They said one place right in front of my 1st island would be great for one feeder...
I have power on the 1st island, though solar or battery powered would be idea I think...
Thanks again.. OR, see ya tomorrow :) Fishmonger says he's willing to try some new water so looks like we'll be up there bout the same time as today..
Now I know why Mossy stays close to home. How can you stray away from home, when all you have to do is walk out your back door ;) Thats some very nice water and a feeder will only make things even better. I'd go and buy some chow and just start feeding them till the feeder install. I'm willing to bet you'd see some activity ;) I'd be down there ever night handing out dinner, talking to them like pets...lol
Thanks again for a fine welcome and I/WE enjoyed it very much. I cant wait to see what happens there in the spring with the hatches coming off. Try those flies I gave ya and I'll tie up more of what was working and what might work ;)
You da man!!! :)

Yeah..I'm sure but I want the deal. NO MONEY DOWN. I'm saving for a new house and I wanna keep my cash so that I can buy the Fantasy Goddess new furnishings for the new house. We're mainly looking for some land to build on when we retire.
We looked at some property in Helen but they want collateral and the only thing I have is 10 acres free and clear in Carrollton but it's family land and if something happened and I lost it my folks would kill me so I can't use it for collateral. I have excellent credit but I write off most of my income so my DTI looks high. Just keep a lookout for me if you see anything.

Thanks for looking out for me.

I was wondering how you were able to get out of there when you busted your leg..
tmick32
01-05-06, 02:11 PM
It was really a reinjury. I had pulled it bad a week and a half before and it had not healed completly.I think the cold water kept it from hurting to bad because that night when I warmed up I could not sleep because ached so bad.
I was heading back when I hurt my hammy so I was moving down stream. The worst part was trying to climb the big rock. I had to lay on it and slid up. Today is the first day that my leg has not hurt. I know with a hamstring pull that I could easily pull it again. I am going to do a little fast walking this weekend. I will be back in the saddle in two weeks.

You're an old man. That's quick recovery time old man. You better wear the bubble just in case.
Dont worry, we'll stop ya before you hit the river.. Mossy prob had a tough time getting out of there too when he broke his leg.. I only managed 1 sitdown near the bank, but when I came running down river with a fish on, and the line rapped around my reel, I got a lil wet ;) Fishmonger should have a pic of that fish here soon.. But I was a good way upstream from him so all you'll see is my smile :D

Did a little light jogging today with no pain but it was a little tight.
DO7, Luke and I went down about 1/2 mile atleast.. Found out later about the trail.. That worked much better the next day.. The river opens up after the island for about 1/2 mile, then looks like it runs thru a couple bends.. Found a nice 17" brown there :)
