Jimmy,

Hope all is going well! Sorry I haven't seen you all in a while. Between work, moving, illnesses, and family obligations, I just haven't had the oppurtunities to fish the last few months like I usually do. Anyways, I was wondering if you all are carrying the new Simms L2 waders, and if so, if you have them in my obligatory big boy-2XL size. Any thoughts and opinions on these waders would be appreciated. I am trying to figure out wether to pony up for the G3s, get another set of Classic Guides, or wether to go with the L2s. My trusty Classic Guides are awesome, but they have developed a few leaks, which I haven't been able to repair myself though I've tried several times. I am going to send my Classic Guides back to Simms for repair and buy another pair to use while they and a pair of original Lightweights are being repaired. Any thoughts on all of the different Simms waders would be appreciated. I know William Jospeph is coming out with waders also and was curious to see how they would stack up to the Simms. Thanks in advance and tightlines!

Steve,

We don't currently have the L2's in stock and, in my opinion, the way you fish and the frequency you normally fish, you wouldn't be satisfied with them. I just think they're too light weight for the kind of use you'll put on them. Also, they aren't Gore-Tex. Everyone in the shop who owns a pair of G3's really likes them. I know they're super expensive and the Classic Guide waders are very good for less money. I look at it the same way you look at buying rods and reels; you want the best. For the way you fish, the Classics or the G3's are the best. Now, if you just want a lightweight backup pair to use primarily while you're old ones are being repaired, that's another consideration altogether. We may even have a pair to loan you while yours are back at Simms. It takes about 4 weeks to get your waders repaired and back.

As for the William Joseph and the Cloudveil, they look good but I'm always skeptical of stuff that doesn't have a track record. I would rather let someone else do the experimenting for a couple of years; get the bugs worked out. We can get them but we don't plan to stock them.

Jimmy,

Thanks for your reply! I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and get a pair of G3s. I'll be getting income tax back here shortly, so I'll get a pair then and of course from you all. If you don't have a pair of 2XLK G3s in stock, please go ahead and order a pair and just put them behind the counter if you don't mind. It will be about 4-6 weeks before I can get them, so if you want to wait a little bit before you order them, that will be alright. I really appreciate all of your help. Thanks for the offer to loan me a pair of waders! I may take you up on that offer. It's not fun having leaky pairs of waders this time of year. I have five pairs of nice waders, and everyone of them leaks! I guess that's why Geirach titled his book "Death, taxes, and Leaky Waders." They are all inevitable. Simms are the best at putting off the inevitable that I have found though! I feel the same way that you do about unproven items, especially with high dollar items. Thanks again for your input and I'll see you real soon!

Steve

Leaks in waders are just battle scars. Something to be proud of; unless of course, you got them trying to straddle a barbed wire fence on the way to your secret stream.
