I'd like to see if there is some interest in a Father and Child camping trip. I was thinking that we could go to Unicoi and fish Smith's Creek since it seems to be a pretty child friendly stream and is pretty much full of fish. I haven't set a date yet but for me to go it would have to be a Saturday afternoon camping and a Sunday morning fishing thing. I have a pretty large tent and a small Honda generator/inverter for those of you that must have electricity.

If anyone is interested please e-mail me, PM me, or call me ar 678-983-2170.

Dan

PS...this is a "G" rated event and of course mom's are allowed. I enjoy a cold one as much as anyone but I would ask that we leave the adult beverages at the house.

I would love to do it if you could arrange the days so we dont have to miss church Sunday morning. Like go on friday and stay all day Staurday or something.

That honestly, doing this would be equivalent to going to church. You would be spending quality time with your child. If I go, it will have to be Sat-Sun event. Besides, where 2 or more gather........you know the rest.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but I play guitar and sing in the praise band at my church I cant miss. But it sounds like it would be fun.

Drop me an email if/when you get this together. I would love to go. Bring 1-3 of my boys, b/n 8-13. Have to either miss or work around babseball, but...

Unicoi state park is awsome and bath houses are the best. Plus a playground when the kids get bored!

And btw, I tried fishing Smith's w/ Sam (10) and he/we did better on the hooch in Helen. I would recommend it over the Smith for a first timer. JMO

Reading this, it almost sounds like you are implying that the Mom's would bring the adult beverages ;)

This sounds great! I think that we would be interested - whether it be me or Jack with Julia.

I would like to see this become an annual event. My daughter just turned 3 and while she's been camping once (and fishing several times) I would like her to be a little older. Maybe this year depending upon on our schedule, but definitely next year.

I'd bet my 11 year old would love to come, too. I'll get some dates up sometime today.

If you do a Sat - Sun count me in as well. My daughter will be 6 on Monday and loves to fish.

I also have a large tent and access to a generator.

Metrela at Unicoi Outfitters! She is going to donate a few freebies for raffles or contests. I think even Royal Automotive Group could come up with a nice prize..maybe for biggest fish by a child. How 'bout a nice fly rod or someting like that?

Dadof7, very interested but have a few Valentine's related events Feb 11-12. Would be all over it if it ends up being another weekend. Thanks for kicking up the idea.

that we do it that weekend. I'm open to any suggestions. I just want the weather to be good since we're camping outside. I'm not opposed to cold...just not rain and cold. I did enough of that in the Army and I do not miss it.

I am going to purchase a new fly rod for the event and I would like a few suggestions on how to give it away. I'd also like to get my hands on a few flies to give to the kids. I have a few and I know there are others out there that have some. A lot of the smaller kids are going to have spinning rigs, too so we need to think of something for them as well.

Y'all put some dates together that would work. We have Feb 11-12 but Hawgleg has something to do that weekend. I'm open for pretty much any weekend but this one. Everyone please PM me and RSVP so that I can get a head count and make sure there is something for every child that is there.

Thanks Do7,
I will let you know our dates. I am going to try and recruit a friend also and his son. Prizes are a great idea!!!

This sounds like a great idea but I'm in the same boat as matchbx with the 3 year old daugter. I think I could definitely do a summer trip like this but I don't think she would tolerate the February cold very well. If we do one during the warm season-count us in.

Thanks for throwing the idea out. Hope it sticks. :D

Great idea DO7!
I have a daughter (5) and son (3), so a late spring/summer thing would be good for us. They were both pretty sad when I left with the pop-up this weekend for the Frostbite.
Also, I say just pick a date and go with it, as it will be hard to meet everyone's schedules.
Keep me informed, we love to camp!

If we can work out the weekend schedule, my daughter Rachel (4) and I will be there. She has been camping and fishing in cold weather before. Let me know the dates.

Thanks Do7!

Ok...I am trying to come up with a date but it seems that life is getting in the way. My daughter Lulu (Lauren) has a birthday on Valentines Day. So we celebrate this weekend. It's a tradition that we celebrate together since mine is Thursday. I am fishing Dukes on the 22nd so the 25th and 26th won't work. Too much strain on the wife. I was thinking 11th and 12th of March but the Spring Fling is the 18th so that will be 2 events in 2 weeks. I give up. Any ideas? Please let me know.

Dad of 7,

I have an idea for the campout, even though I do not have a kid. I would suggest sometime in the beginning of April. As a couple of members pointed out, I think the warmer weather of that time of year would make for more smiling faces from the young ones. Also, if you could find a pond to fish nearby, the bream should be biting well by that time and I always find that to be a great fish to start kids out on. I also have a couple of other suggestions if you want to give me a call.

Have a 5 year old who loves to camp and fish. Charles Elliot might be the place, camping is cheap and they have kid ponds.

Grizz you could bring B983 as your child.

Maybe the kids could have a name the Kangaroo contest for next years Frostbite??????????

I also agree with Grizzz on waiting for warmer weather. Especially since those posting seem to have relatively young kids. Charlie Elliott sounds like a good idea. Just to throw another date out there for you guys to mull over there is a Kids Fishing Day at Spring Creek in Tennessee on April 15. This creek is at the Hiwassee River and therefore camping could be done at Hiwassee Outfitter's. I know it is more of a trek but it could be well worth it.

Hooch - Grizzz pass B983 off as his kid? Son, something in the FB Q done et too many of yer braincells.

I like this idea and my 7.5 yr old has already asked when we could go camping! But the warmer the better just not HOT! I like Hooch Rat's CE idea.

Rafty, I like your idea too but it's not the trek but the COST of those TN NON-RESIDENT License for me.

I'll stay tuned to see where this goes. :)

I like the CE idea! Not sure if my husband would join my daughter and I since he is not much of a camper and there is not much in the way of facilities there. But Julia and I are in.

Finally caught up to this thread. I've never been to CEWMA but it's been on my list. I'd love to bring my 5 and 3 year olds there this spring.

CEWMA works for me. I agree that warmer weather would be more conducive to less whining from the kids. ;)

Plus I might get another shot at one of those Shepherd hawgs that dissed me last year.
