I have always enjoyed fishing the soque river and have caught many good rainbows on my spinner rod. However, I have put away my spinner and started fly fishing. I was wondering if anyone knows any good flies to use right now on the soque river. I am fishing the public part.

Thanks,

Bow

Bead head nymphs (hares ear, prince, hurless) and run them deep. Maybe trail a small 18-20.

I also fished the soque saterday but it was in the morning. I caught one bow that was about stocker size and got a really good hit that I missed. I was using a w2k bug with a p.n for a dropper. I will try the hares ear. Thinks for the info.

Most of the Soque River is not public. Upstream from Jackson Bridge on 197 to Blackhawk. All private areas are posted. do not fish the private water.

Richie27, What really makes sense is to jump on the once a year opportunity offered by the Soque River Watershed Assn.,to open the membership,s heavily stocked/fed/and accessible waters to any bold enough to bid @ our Annual Fundraiser silent auction:Sat. Feb. 11th.! Called the VALENTINE Big Band night out, held in Cornelia, I will, as have in the past,be happy to do absentee bidding for anyone........for the good cause of watershed protection thruout this rare watershed! We are offering guided & affordable 1/2 and full day trips w/lunch for one to two persons on the Soque,as well as Nacoochee Bend, the Chestattee , and a float trip this year thrown in on a mystery river.........., by Jeff Tart........board member! All at prices you determine! Previous years, similar winners have purchased trips @ 1/2 or less thru this method! Good all year or better,......you determine your bid limits, by calling the Watershed office @ 706-754-9382........ I DO THE REST! Now you can fullfill that dream of fishing the south,s famous Soque, and may even catch a trout personally signed by Ted Turner.......a generous supporter of our environmental efforts in this year of critical threats to water quality! Bassman... i'll answer your question a little more definitively... you cannot (legally) float any of the Soque River (other than the public section), unless you have permission.

Skibum, I apologize for not being clear on previous threads about this all volunteer ENVIRONMENTAL Watershed 501 c-3 non-profit Org.,that just this year was awarded a sizable grant to do water assessment and pollution source evaluation, for this River, that contributes the most water to the upper Chattahoochee, than any other, and since the Soque is rated as an impaired stream, and enjoys the highest annual rainfall in No. Ga.,it becomes quite obvious why this 10 year old organization is in the forefront of the effort to baseline water conditions,as a prelude hopefully.......for corrective measures! Whew! That sets a record for run-on sentences, but hopefully it answers your post. There,s more that can be said obout the quality property owners of the water in question.........and since trout have a tendency to move about,if nothing else, the next biggun you hook on the almost mile of national forest public Soque beat,is there and fat, because of the owners! So think about sending a big ole contribution to us,the next time you take a big draught of Atlanta water!....... Regards,Rocketroy P.S.Google up the web site, and see our progress on Greenspace hiking trails for this area....... plus much more ahappening!....R.
