whisperer sez: on my next trip up to the old home place ( virginia ), i'm thinking about doing some hiking and fly fishing over in the mountaineer state. my investigation thus far to find a few nice wild trout streams and access trails has not been encouraging. seems like a lot of the smaller streams have low pH from mining acid deposition and it's not clear from the material i've read which streams are naturally ok or have been improved through liming projects. the books i've purchased to help with this do not give consistent information. i know there used to be a few west virginia fly fishermen that posted here. can anyone give me some advice? i hate the thought of hiking around the mountains and wading up a stream with no good information. any suggestions regarding streams and trails will certainly be appreciated. regards, TW

Whisperer,
Check out WVAngler (http://www.wvangler.com) for some good info. I can also give you my dad's email address and he could help you out some. He's a fan of the Greenbrier, Cranberry and Williams, but may be able to help you more.

The Greenbrier is nice. You mat also want to try the Elk. The section above Webster Springs in Webster county has been good to me in the past.
