View Full Version : Cartecay weather condition this am
01-29-06, 07:41 AM
It started to rain alittle early this morning about 4am, its 0740 and its not raining anymore.
The river is alittle more murky than it was yesterday, currently it is not raining, but overcast.
I think the fishing should be great today !

They say overcast is one of the best times to fish, well....
its overcast ! :yikes:
01-29-06, 09:45 AM
I will join you guys. Probably won't get there until 1:30 or so due to some unforseen auto problems.
Want to try out my wading jacket and see how waterproof it is!
01-29-06, 06:12 PM
well, all of us that came got skunked !!
01-29-06, 06:43 PM
You don't usually see a post that says "Skunked at Mossy's house" but man...what I day!! Water was fast and high. I saw John (Spinboy) get a hit and I heard that Brandon had a few strikes before we got there. I was flat skunked with one possible strike but I was fishing with so much weight it could have been the bottom.
The funniest thing was when Garrett threw the feed while we were fishing by his house and the trout were hitting all around us! I should have tied on the trout chow fly.
All in all it was a good day kicking back with fishing buddies. I talked quite a bit with Bob (Mediaven) as we drove between fishing spots and Steve (Oscarflytyer) and I talked about our similar parenting techniques. One...Two...Three....don't MAKE me count to four!!
See you guys next time.
01-29-06, 06:55 PM
I'm glad to be home. Skunked today and had a catastrophe of a day for equipment. I must have lost 10 flies and broke 3 leaders and crushed my new net in Mossy's truck door.....I did try to chow fly and nothing...
It was nice to meet some new guys though (Bob, Steve, Sam). Maybe this nutty rain will hold off for a while.....
These Killians should make me feel better.
01-29-06, 07:06 PM
Maybe the first time fishing with Spinboy that we have been skunked.
01-29-06, 07:53 PM
Sorry about that Todd....hadn't thought of it that way.
I was right...the ole "Irish Red" feels nice.
01-29-06, 07:53 PM
Too bad the Trout gods wasnt on our side, oh well, if it was easy, they'd be NO FISH !
Hope every-1 has a great week, I'll be in Texas till friday night yeee haaaw :bang:
01-29-06, 07:54 PM
Where were you, Todd? I thought you'd be there.
01-29-06, 07:58 PM
But he left early to go play sissy flag football :ghug:
01-29-06, 08:32 PM
We ought to have a name and sticker for our group...like the Hydro Group, only we'd be like the Heineken Group! :D
Since we all have a propensity for falling down, we could be the Hydroplane Group.
Something like that. I'll pay for the stickers if we can get a name together.
Hey...did Todd catch anything? ANd the burning question...did he hurt himself? ;)
01-29-06, 08:51 PM
It was a rough day a Smith's as well...had the place all to myself and the sun broke and it was like a wave of people....fish stopped biting...decided to go home and do some yardwork.
01-29-06, 09:12 PM
Todd said he didn't get even a bump. He was dry the entire time. I think that was the problem ;)
I nearly got stuck pulling out of the dirt on the side of the driveway when I was leaving. It took me a couple minutes to maneuver out of there. Just when Bob pulled out his tow straps, I was able to pull out. I think I'll carry a bag of gravel next time. LOL
01-30-06, 08:26 AM
Made it through the whole day without an injury. yeehaw!!!!!!!!!!
01-30-06, 08:55 AM
I think your own to something Dan, theres enuff of us to a special elite Cartecay something other or I really like " Mossy's Marauders " :D
Lets work on this !
01-30-06, 09:03 AM
... and the logo can be a fish rising up to a pellet fly ;)
01-30-06, 10:10 AM
not a pellet fly...a Wobblerhead being gulped down.
01-30-06, 10:28 AM
... when you're fishing instead of working! :)
Stayed dry (even in the fast current), no injuries, no major equipment problems (sorry about your's Spinboy), good conversation, and a nice beer or two after the skunking. A nice bow or two would have been icing on the cake.
It was great to meet you guys. Dad of Plentitude, please give my thanks again to Levi for saving me the walk down and back up! That was a genuine act of kindness -- he's a good kid.
01-30-06, 10:54 AM
It was nice to meet you again. Levi is a good kid, and I appreciate the compliment. Just when you think you're doing a crappy job raising your kid, he goes and does something good! ;). After fighting the swift current yesterday, I am tired as all get out this morning. My legs are killing me and I hit the snooze button 6 times this morning. After i got home I watched hours 2&3 of the first season of "24" with the Fantasy Goddess and hit the rack.
Thanks fortthe offer of the beer that I couldn't pronounce the name of. I wanted it but when I'm with Levi I stick to Big Oranges!! :D We'll have to do it again some time.
PS..Garrett..I can get some shirts made, too. My sister-in-law owns a company that does that stuff and I buy my dealership shirts, hats and jackets from her.She does it cheap for me. Too bad "The Liar's Club" is already taken by Jimmy Harris!
01-30-06, 07:32 PM
hey Dan I'm game if you are, lets all get together and see what we come up with :D
01-30-06, 09:23 PM
It should just be Garret's mug shot with a couple of blacked out teeth maybe lipping a Wobblerhead and a goofy acronym.
01-30-06, 10:14 PM
and spinboy with his taped up fish net!!
01-30-06, 10:35 PM
Hey mossy, did you need anyone to house sit for you while your out of town??? i'm free!
01-31-06, 09:40 AM
"The Cartecay River Boys" and we can get a simple sticker that is an oval with the initials on it. Should be easy on the budget and easy to put onto shirts and hats and stuff.
01-31-06, 10:04 AM
How about "The Embellishers?"
The Ole Man
01-31-06, 10:30 AM
Just a thought on the "Cartecay River Boys". You know, you might add a female member or two in the future (who knows?) and then you wud have to make it CRB&G (Girls).
How about "Cartecay Creepers" ? ---you know, creeping around trying not to fall in---lol. Some dos pesos from a so-far --"non-member". :)
01-31-06, 11:01 AM
I like that! We're not as bad as Liars, we just stretch the truth a little bit. Like REAL fishermen!
Ol Man....if she fishes, she just be one of the boys anyway. Course, Garrett is single now. That might be dangerous. Cartecay Creepers might be a good name. I swear that river has the slickest rocks in it I have ever traversed.
How about "The He-Man Women Haters Club" (From the Little Rascals)
01-31-06, 11:21 AM
a picture of a hat bill and boots sticking out of the water like me.
01-31-06, 11:22 AM
Dad , brother and I are hunting grouse at Smithgall on Sat.
01-31-06, 12:43 PM
I like Todd's idea about the hat and boots. Maybe add a hand holding the fishing rod.
I found a few of the slicker rocks myself on Sunday. I think the fish were at church and the rocks were a warning.
01-31-06, 01:22 PM
rod in one has beer in the other.
01-31-06, 02:52 PM
no beer....we couldn't have them on our trucks then......
01-31-06, 03:15 PM
yeah, that pretty much describes our technic in traversing those owl poop slick rocks :yikes:
01-31-06, 03:17 PM
I busted my arsss above you spinboy trying to manuever up the knee deep sand little did I know there was a hidden boulder in the mist, my right knee is bruised :(
