VERY tough day. My dad was down from Michigan, so we gave Dukes a go. Great day to be on the water, little chilly in the morning, beautiful from about 11am on. Fished the entire section 1 and got thoroughly spanked in all of my usual go to spots. Fished everything from small nymphs, midges, eggs, san juans, wooly buggers, and even a few small dries with not much to show. Between the 2 of us we landed 2 fish. Mine came from the culvert right at 4:30, a whopping 7 inch bow. The good news is my Dad's fish was a handsome 22+ inch bow taken on one of my frostbite midges. He hooked that fish no more than 5 minutes into the day and then that was that. I did have one more good fish on and after several jumps it threw the hook, but i believe he was foul hooked. When we checked out at 4:30 the woman said that several people got skunked for the day. Anybody else fish saturday and do anything noteworthy? Seemed like a more or less dead day. Heres Dads bow......

Usually always good for a fish. I've caught some nice browns in that same hole.
We (Mossy Oak, Spinboy, Brandon T, Mediaven, Oscarflytyer and son, Myself and my son) fished today and got beat like we did something wrong. Still, it's a great day to fish.

haha, thats what everyone always says to me!! I will always be grateful to my dad for teaching me about the great outdoors and getting me into flyfishing at an early age. You should hear him complain, however, when i show him pics of nice fish from dukes, nanny, smiths, etc. about he never gets fish like that, so i was thrilled he caught a nice fish in his short time down here.

Ive been fishing section 1 most of the times, and although the big fish are still around and the water has been good, catch rates are at rock bottom. I havent heard much about the lower sections lately, but the last time i fished there about a month ago was pretty good and nobody to compete with. With all the pressure in section 1, the lower sections might be a better choice. In addition, 3 and 4's water temps are usually a few degrees warmer than the upper sections, so thats a bit of a help.
Let us know how you do.
Rich
Did anyone fish the lower section @ Dukes last weekend?
I always stay around section I ...but it's been tough this time of the year... :bang:

Got spanked. my buddy caught one, i did not catch a thing. first time at dukes, it is an awesome place. some guy on the van said he caught 5. we had a great time there. we were off the river at 12:50 then had some lunch and made it home by 1:30. i am looking forward to going back.
I think I know who are you talking about. I have seen one guy that is always there when I go, he always catches fish. Sometimes he brings his doggy.

And like RJ said the guy that fishes with the dog fishes there all the time and catches lots of fish... He also guides up there too right?

on getting a handle on the people that book 98 spots over the course of 3 months..It's always funny to see the same faces that have the "cancelation" clause "wired"..It's easy to make a pig of ones self at free buffet..
Maybe he's known as the 16th man??...lol

Shine
Okay, I have to be honest, Shine can and does outfish me on Dukes. I think it is because Shine does not fish anywhere else - hahaa...
Shine has taught me a thing or two on Dukes. Dont forget to Ask shine how to fish Dukes! Oh make sure he brings the Fly Box as well...
ps - I have some of "those" flys as well.
