I knew that would get your attention. I fished the Ami today for about an hour. Met 2 guys on their way out and they said that some guy from Wisconsin was fishing at Steel Bridge with spin gear and a Rooster Tail and he landed that big hawg y'all stcked 2 weeks ago. He took pics and measured it then put it back in the creek. SO...the hawg is still there and feelin' a little frisky.

As for me and Levi, I landed 2...a 14" and a 13" and Levi was skunked because he thinks it's not cool to use a strike indicator. I caught both fish out in the deep part by the concrete overhang up from Hwy 53. Weather was wonderful and the river was clear and at a good level to fish. I highly recommend going up there tomorrow if you can make it.

Do7,

Tell Levi that if a strike indicator is good enough for Lefty, it's good enough for me.

After I caught 2 quick ones, he wanted the keys to the Official NGTO/Unicoi Outfitters truck where he left his strike indicators! LOLOLOLOL!!!!

Hi Dan

The fisher dude that pulled that hog out must have been using 20 lb test! LOL If I remember right there is not a lot of room around that pool. I hope the fish stays healthy. That had to have been one heck of an endeavor, some luck included. Is the Ami single hooks for spinning gear?

It would be fun if some of those size fish were released on the Hooch. :)

Kelly in another thread saw a pic of the fish.... 30 inches

Thanks

Jeff

Dad of 7,

One of the two men you spoke with is a friend of mine and sent me an email about the big fish. It was caught by a man from Wisconsin on spinning gear with a panther martin on 4 LB TEST, believe it or not! They measured the fish at 28-30 inches.

Here is the email that he sent to me:

"This is for those of you who do not think we have big trout in Georgia.

Today at 1:30 I really became convinced. A friend and I were fishing in a
small North Georgia river not one hour from my home, when a nice Yankee from
Wisconsin stepped up to the hole we were just leaving and chatted a bit. He
started fishing with a light spinning rod and small Panther Martian spinner
on 4 lb line. We got in the jeep pulled out of the parking and were across
the river when Roy noticed the Yankee's rod was bent. Then we noticed he
was carefully pumping his small spinning rod, as if he had a large fish.
Roy got out and asked across the river if he had a fish and if he needed a
net. He asked for help so we sped back with the net and helped him land
this huge fish.

The net would hardly get over the fish's head! The line broke as I was
getting the net over his head, but with the net and grabbing him by the
tail we got the fish. Boy was the fisherman excited; in fact, we all three
were really excited!"

We need to be grateful to Bill Couch and the DNR for providing anglers in Ga. with fish like these... this is what it's all about... the excitement :)

Hi Path

I totally agree about thanking the DNR and Bill Couch

That is awesome he caught it one 4 lb test. I caught a 5 lb brown using #6 tippet once and felt lucky to land the fish.

We need to name this Big Brown which is already becoming legendary!

I took a picture as the fish was being stocked but that hesitation digital cameras have before the picture is snapped left me with a picture of mostly the back of the DNR fellow fighting to get it out of the truck.

There were plenty of fish larger than typical SNIT size stocked. ...and there were at least two in the seven pound range stocked down by the 53 bridge.

Where exactly I like to leave vague as a perk for those that helped to stock.;)

Now why is that guy wearing a "polar creel"? a makeshift tacklebox?? ;)

Yeah, truly an awesome fish, but I thought the same thing when I saw the photo. Why would somebody be fishing the DH with a creel?

I guess some people do use them for tackle bags, but that is a little strange.

I know if I saw someone with a creel on a DH stretch my first thought would be something's up or they just weren't aware of the regulations.

At least we know he didn't put THAT fish in the creel.

Yeah when we hauled it in the 6 gal bucket it would'nt fit in it, I was trying to figure out a way to sneak it in the back of my truck ! :yikes:

Now why is that guy wearing a "polar creel"? a makeshift tacklebox?? ;)

I meet this guy just after he caught her, he's a yankee down her on Vac. said he's now going to move down here now. btw he was using a $20.00 spining rod with a crappie bait. go figure. :yikes:
