Do a DNA test on that native........from the photo, it looks like an immature stream bred brown to these old eyeballs! Just stirring things up a little.......bored! Rocketroy

You know dang well that is a speck. Nice fish, Richie- did it really come out of Smith Creek?

They put one brookie, one cutbow, and a golden in Smith's during the dh..You catch either one, you win a sammich-no inside meat-sorry, contest rules -from Chattahoochie BBQ or a six pack of Milwaukee's Beast at Alpine Brew..-ficticious contest -How'd that booger get in Smith's? That's a speck..Look at it's back, the worm pattern...Way to go Ritchie..

If you look close, you can barely see the 4-wheeler trail the DNR guys use to cast pellets! :)

I fished Smith's three weeks ago and tried fishing some of these very holes.

This is further down stream towards the cable where the tornado took down alot of the trees. There's got to be some sneaky fish in these difficult places if you have the patience.

Who knows, maybe in a year or two there will be some trophy sized fished caught at Smiths because of sections like this that most people overlook.

the ambiguouity of this post is quite hilarious. "look at this fish, i might have caught i here, but maybe not." "i know that rock. wink" i guess you have to have something to do instead of working. :bang:

On a message board, credibility is one of the most important assets you have... Richie, yours has been compromised.

Speck

Y'all may think I'm crazy but I caught the most beautiful 6" brookie I've ever seen in a remote section of Cooper's several years ago.

Richie27
02-06-06, 12:47 PM
now I hope you can take a joke cause that was my intention...hints the ;) face after I said I can't believe I caught it out of smiths creek....i would hate to think that my credibility was compromised over a simple joke. This message board is full of sarcastic humor

TreeFrog

i think we all knew it was a hoax after the two foot wide section of the creek picture and his report afterwards. com'on guys, a brook on smith creek, below the dam?! i think richie27 is just being a smart-*** about his nice brook spot that he doesn't want to reveal (like most of us do about our secret/favorite spots)

Jimmy Harris
02-07-06, 10:46 AM
Huh? Fooled me! I thought it was a picture of Smith Creek after the tornadoes. Ha! Keep em on their toes, Ritchie.

If our messages arent truthful, then why even post?... Richie's first post was a lie... and not an effective "joke" either.

TroutTackler
02-07-06, 05:18 PM
Hey, it was good enough marketing to get me to view the thread. And, by the way, Richie's not a bad guy, so no harm done.

"If our messages arent truthful, then why even post?"

The answer to that is pretty easy.....he wanted to show us his beauty of a brookie without telling us where it came from. I've heard Jimmy Harris say that if a strike indicator is good enough for Lefty, it's good enough for him. Well, if that joke's good enough for Jimmy Harris, it's good enough for me!

Jimmy Harris
02-07-06, 05:26 PM
Uh Oh! If we require all posts to be truthful, we'll lose 90% of our posters. We're fishermen (& women); not sure we're capable of being truthful all the time. "It's a compelsion" (Barney Fife).

Just messin' with ya, PLT.

Path_Less_Traveled
02-07-06, 05:50 PM
Maybe he shouldve started one of his infamous pictures of this, that, and the other threads and titled it "pictures of brookies" (with a stipulation that no one reveal the names of any brookie streams)... that wouldve sufficed, without having to lie... jmho... now let's just let it rest :)

mattbowers
02-07-06, 05:58 PM
Hold on........what is a "brook" trout?

TroutTackler
02-07-06, 05:59 PM
I think calling it a lie might be a little strong. A joke....good or bad...but a joke, nonetheless. Resting in 3...2....1...

mattbowers

no really.........there are trout in ga? are you sure that wasn't a picture of a chain pickerel?

Richie27
02-07-06, 07:47 PM
thanks guys for coming to my rescue and keeping the wolve(s) at bay while I was at class today :D but come on Path Less Traveled...its a joke...nothing more nothing less....Jimmy was right about us being fishermen, and actually all I wanted to do was get people to view the thread...and it worked! :D But to call it a lie...come on now, thats a little ridiculous there is no need to get in a huff about my little joke...but in the words of George Bush Sr..."read my lips, I caught this brookie at smith creek" or better yet Mr. Clinton once said, "I was only fishing with Monica when I caught that brookie" :D I'll remember to be sworn in before posting in the future ;)

I'm with you Richie 27, I'm happy just to see a picture of a pretty brookie and don't have any problems with a little subterfuge to get me to see it. Heck, I would have checked it even if your post said that Bigfoot gave it to you after landing it on his 3wt.

Glory Hole- Ha!!!!!! ROTFLMMFAO!!!!!!!! (pretty good web-speak, huh).
Dang- I'm away from the computer for a day and look at all the fun I've missed. I feel the urge to get my .02 in though:

1) Fishermen lie about fishing. Its what we do. Its not ok to lie about other things, but in my book its ok to lie about fishing- its part of the tradition of the sport.
2) Richie 27's assertation that the pretty little speck came out of Smiths below the **** is so preposterous that you can't call it a lie- but... even if it is a lie, its a lie about fishing, which is ok.
3) :D As punishment for his lack of honesty, Richie 27 should send me a private message revealing the whereabouts of the supposed stream where this speck came from.

threejack
02-08-06, 12:09 PM
more you can visit the glory hole the better. :D you just hope when you get there you don't find someone else in your hole!!
ah yes so many things you learn from fishing can be applied to every day life
right guys? :D

that when I posted that lil pic of that speck and smith creek that this would be the result, but I must say its been a lot of fun with everyone going back and forth :D Habersham Mong...the glory hole...thats funny! but I don't know if the punishment that finless suggested fits the crime :D ha...but yall let me know if yall are around dahlonega and wanna do some fishing...I'm sure treefrog would be more than happy to get behind the camera and snap some photos ;)

3J, I couldnt care less about the specific locale where Richie caught that brookie... we know it wasnt caught in the Smith DH... i have a nice list of brookie streams and other wild streams... 167 of them to be exact.... if it's a wild trout stream in Georgia, then it's on my list... i dont post them on the board, but often share them in pm's... brookies are actually very easy to find and catch... i'll be glad to show some of you (with a few exceptions) where some real good ones are some time after the season starts... one being caught in the Smith DH wouldve been unique to say the least... i still think Richie's post was misleading no matter what the intentions were... this will be my last post on this thread... dang :) ... i'm starting to feel like Owl... Hey Owl.. you still got that message board bro?

Richie27
02-08-06, 06:00 PM
I'm sorry that you feel that my post was misleading but come on its nothing but a simple joke...I don't know how anyone can consider this post misleading when I said I caught it out of smith creek...the chances of that speck being in smith creek is like catching a brookie in a south georgia pond :D ...pretty much the chances are a negative one in a million. But PLT I hope our path crosses one day and we can still be buddies :)

in the "glory hole"...Yikes..Honestly, I fell for it.. I don't get knocked out over the washed out females, and frankly don't see myself committing my life to hunting brookies...Couldn't tell if it was a native or stocker, so never doubted that it could have in fact ended up coming out of Smith's ditch..The trees threw me for a loop..Much like Jimmy Harris, I thought it was the storm damage on the upper section..I didn't get bilked out of any money and I didn't wake up in a hotel room with one of my kidneys missing..I can relate with keeping water locales secret. Ritchie you know you have a "successful" post when it goes to 3 pages..Keep the photos coming, between you and finless brown and some of the water in your photos, I constantly reminded why I spend so many weekends doing 600 mile "day" trips..Good stuff!!!!

I still say I wouldn't be that surprised by a brookie in Smith's. I've caught 'em virtually everywhere else.

I love it!!!! Those are my thougths exactly- I was in Helen on business last week and stopped by to see what Smith's was all about. Might as well stock the Log Ride at Six Flags. But..... I'd rather spend a day on Smith's Ditch than at the office..........

Jimmy Harris
02-10-06, 11:28 AM
Finless,

Don't judge Smith Creek by what you can see up around the dam and the group camp. Walk all the way down to the lower end and fish your way back up. I'll guarantee you won't know you aren't on a headwater stream somewhere way up in the hills. And the fishing is more challenging down there also.

finless brown
02-10-06, 11:53 AM
Sorry- my post was kinda rude. I just though "Smith's Ditch" was pretty funny. I did fish from the bottom all the way up to the dam the day I went out there, and I agree with you Mr. Harris that the first few holes down there near the bamboo forest are quite lovely.

Jimmy Harris
02-10-06, 12:26 PM
Didn't think it was rude. I kinda feel the same way about that upper end. The lower end, however, is quite a bit of fun for something so easy to access.

I'll admit to knowing this Richie character, and this thread is exactly what I would expect from him. I don't fish for trout, nor do I care about the exact GPS coordinates of this so called "glory hole." However, I thought the thread has been entertaining.

PLT, did you not pull any hoaxes when in college, or while young? What would college be if you didn't have a little harmless fun? Besides, Richie and TreeFrog could be out stirring up other kinds of trouble but instead they choose to get outside and wet a line - good clean fun. Well, I suppose that depends on if they have a flask and if they do what and how much is in it :D . Either way, even if they do that is pretty tame compared to some other stuff college students are getting messed up with these days.

Now, I am not saying that they don't stir up other sorts of trouble because I am sure they do, but this was pretty funny unless you are one of those who immediately went to Smiths expecting a brookie. I laughed all the way through this one, Richie. TreeFrog, thanks for telling me this was going on. It is nice to get out of my warmwater bubble (georgiariverfishing.com) and read a good coldwater report. Later guys... :)

Finless,

Just wanted you to know that there is a lot more to Smith Creek than what is visible from the parking lot. There's another mile of stream down in the woods that looks, feels and fishes like any headwater stream in Georgia. And you're right, it sure beats sitting in the office.

mattbowers
02-11-06, 02:44 AM
Wow, i'm in college and there is a time or two when some trouble has been stirred up, but nothing quite as exciting as a message board argument about brook trout!!! Man basserdrew and Richie....you guys know how to party!!
