Could some one let me know if a #4 wt rod is strong enough for the Ami and smiths.
and what are some good midge nymph patterns for these streams?

For the Ami a 4wt or 5wt is fine, really depends on what you prefer. i generally use my 9ft 5wt, but a 4 wt will work just fine for you. As for smiths, i fish my 8ft 4wt the most, perfect size for that stream. When the water is running lower or its dry fly time i like my 7'9ft 3wt or my 7ft 4wt bamboo.

I even use a 3wt on the Ami sometimes just because I like it and it easily handles most fish there. If you catch one of those monsters that Bill gave us to put in you better hold on tight no matter what rod you're holding....

I use a 7 ft 3 wt rod as my all purpose rod, i have caught 22+ inch trout, 6 pound bass, and plenty of stockers, wild bows, large bluegills, even a 5 pound catfish on it. So 4 wt will be ample rod for both places.
