I went to the delayed harvest area around 11:00 today. I went 21 for about 40. One was a 14" brookie, the rest were all rainbows. There are some 16" fish now in the river. Caught 15 of the fish on one particular fly. Everyone should be able to figure that one out. My buddy caught 11 rainbows on various nymphs. Very light line and good drifts with no drag was the key. The fish were taking size 12 through size 16 flies. The fly didn't seem to matter as much as the line and drift.
After the DH, we went up to Big Bend Falls. It was a long hike and the fish were not very big. There were very fiesty though. ended up going 8 for 12 there on WB and Hare's ear. We only had an hour and a half to fish since it is a giant walk down in.

what are these stats you are giving us? is this your batting average for the weekend? i'm not sure waht a 8 for 12 means?

He probably means out of the 12 fish that he hooked, 8 of them were landed. That's my guess.

That would mean he was Fiddy two percent on the DH water and siddy seven percent on the bend water. :D
Nice catchin!

I'm a novice who can't figure it out (one particular fly, that is).
I'm going up to the DH section tomorrow. Anyone care to recommend some flies?
Im not sure but I think he may be talking about the Y2K. I have fished the Chattooga DH before and it seemed to do the job. Id drop a soft hackle pheasant tail off of the Y2K. Also, Ive had luck with copper johns in a variety of colors and pink san juans are usally a go to fly for me when nothing is working. You also might try a zebra midge as a dropper but def. start out with the soft hackle pts.
You said you were a novice so Id also suggest using 6x tippet and using a strike indicator. When the fish aren't as aggressive that indicator helps a ton. I use an indicator almost all of the time. Also put some split shot above your top fly. I find number 4 is about the right size and vary how many I put on with the water conditions. Hope this helps.
Let me know how you do; Im thinking about heading up there sometime Sat. morning and staying until Sun. afternoon.
