With all the nasty weather out there today I decided to fish close by and head over to the Ami at the Steele Bridge. I have only fished the Ami 3 or 4 times before, i havent had the best of luck in the past, so i wasnt really expecting much today. I got there just after 8 and only 1 other truck in the lot. I started catching fish right away, with a hurless nymph and a Y2K being most productive. When i left the stream a little after 3 the parking lot was empty. Wound up having a great time, and very productive. 28 fish landed in all, all bows. Most were on the smallish side, but i did manage a few better 12-14 inch fish. Do they stock browns in this stream? I talked to a few people who had caught some fish and they said they caught all bows, and of my 28 landed and probably 10 more lost they were all bows too. Boy, there sure is some BEAUTIFUL water if you dont mind hiking downstream a GOOD ways. Definetely a little redemption here and will be back again in the next few weeks.

It was a good day. I got to steeles bridge at 7:30 and had to leave at noon so I didn't walk down as far as I normaly do and still landed 26 with several being the bigger fish the best being close to 16". They only stock rainbows in the river. They quit stocking browns about 6 years ago when they found etowah darters. It's a shame because we used to catch some nice browns up there.

SB... yep... gotta be a few wild browns in there ... if they're in the Etowah, then they should be in the Ami... gonna make it a point to catch some this spring/summer.

I know that they used to stock browns a couple years ago....but quit recently because of the possibility of harming the Etowah darters. Since the Ami does empty into the Etowah and brownies being such a predator, I believe DNR did stop the brown stocking. I have heard of a few showing up now and then but they are far a few between. Sometimes you can even catch a holdover rainbow!
