Imagine my surprise when I open the new Hank III CD "Straight to Hell" to find a picture of Jessco and D. Ray!
I have no idea as to the connection but they are prominently feature in the insert. Now, he is truly worldwide.
By the way, the lyrics on this CD is more than a little rough. III is not happy with Nashville to be sure. AJC reviewed the CD in Th. edition...a C!

I found the connection! Track 5 on the CD is the Legend of D Ray White. All the characters are included. Must listen.

Is one of the most interesting people I have ever seen. Glad to know there are more people out there interested in Jessie...I mean Elvis.

"you're gonna go to bed alright, you're gonna go to bed in a coffin"
"I put the butcher knife to her throat..."
"I don't want my costly sunglasses to lay up there with some wierdo a wearin em."
"He blowed it all to hell!"
"Talk about a warped mind, I got one."
"Steve Rowe and Billy Hastings started working me over like they's on acid."
"It's between you and me now...you just pushed my father on HIS OWN PROPERTY!"
"Of course I drive you over the mountain...you just gave me a fifth of whiskey"

I have seen that documentary way too many times to be good for a person.

My recollection may be fading here, but I don't know that I have ever heard of this person.

BTW the new Hank III CD is awesome, always some good tunes.

Jesco is Jessie who is Elvis...A quick google search will give u what you're looking for...Or you can stop by the shop and watch the Dancing Outlaw. It plays every Wed when the owner is not around.

Not that it is bad or anything, but I just think it's so...so...interesting(????). That is the best way to put it. It really makes me want to move to West Virginia...Right!!!

I play it here at work in the conference room every few months, and people love it. Co-workers ask me to bring it in all the time. Once it was even stolen from me, but then one day it appeared back on my desk. I never did find out who took it. I was just glad to have it back.

Oh there have been multiple showings of the Dancing Outlaw in the back room here at the shop. We've had two copies stolen and now are into the DVD mode.

I spent many of late nights in college watching the "Dancing Outlaw". A buddy had an encounter with Mae Mae in Macon. Favortie quote is "You better quit frying those sloppy slimy eggs, I ain't all the way crazy you know"

The sidebar comments at the Hawk make it even more interesting. A slice of the white trash life. Get Sarge going on it when he's in on the weekend.

Here in Birmingham at the Nick. It was a gas to watch the exodus of the Hank Jr. wannabe's and the older-over 65 group that showed up expecting to see the re-incarnation of Hank Sr.-when *** JACK -Hank's alter ego band-thrash metal punk-took the stage for the 2nd set, ,many were caught with their mouths agape..Jessco is a living Southern gothc alien..Dance on Elvis..

That must have been fun to see, or as we say in the south, to behold. I have been ripped by the Hank III CD which has amazing moments of poetry interspersed with stuff that troubles folks like me. Sounds like the way granddaddy played. I hope to catch the boy live. I can assure you I will not be a Hank Jr. wannabe.
Any one see any reference on Jessco/Elvis lately?

hank3.com is his website..You can find a tour schedule.. I would give myself a 15' buffer/berth for the second show..Lead man for the punk set likes to beat his head with the microphone and sling blood all over the place. He'll spit on people also..I moved back..Way back.

All,

I caught the original PBS airing of Dancing Outlaw years ago and was fascinated, but never heard anyone else ever speak of it. Even my baby brother who loves PBS and has a keen interest in arcane hilbilly folklore.

Then I see a preview post in this section, follow it through and danged if I didn't find out that Jessie has a cult following amongst FF'ers. If I hadn't seen the show - heck, if anyone hasn't seen the show - you couldn't make them believe it.

I Googled Jessie White that day and spent the next 4 hours catching up to him and Flaming Mamie. Living stereotypes that don't care or realize what anyone else thinks of them. From what I have read, seems as though things haven't been great lately for the clan, and that is starting from a depressed state.

Gotta buy that DVD.... RScott

You have to make it to the Hawk for a public session of viewing. It is unbelievable. I believe the boys have upgraded to DVD! The music that serves as the background is worth the trip. Right as we are in the Masters week, what better way to celebrate the "other side" of South by visiting the Dancing Outlaw. No green jackets here. JUst Elvis chamois. Question: are the dogs playing poker cheating?
