It is always great to have any event exceed expectations. This event did that, turn-ouy was fantastic and everyone had a great time. Friday afternoon we were expecting 40 attendees, saturday afternoon we had over 100. Low pressure system pushing through the night before made for slow fishing until the sun pushed through and warmed things up. The afternoon was great. The Cahaba Trout Unlimited Chapter would like to thank those who contributed their time, land, products, and effort: Matt Loomis and Bill Walters for an awesome presentation rod. Alabama Outdoors of North Alabama for the rockin' gear, table was manned by our very own Phishfool-JD Cornelius, and North Alabama guide and casting expert Tony Cox-Tony guides the his local waters for striper, smallie, and trout, plus can teach you a thing or two on casting. SouthEastern Anglers/Dane Law, Reliance Tn-if your going to float the Hi, you need to be in the boat with Dane or his boys. Chris Scalley-River Through Atlanta guide service. Deep South Outfitters in Birmingham, Marks Outdoors in Birmingham. Riverside Fly Shop-Brandon and Mary Carol Jacckson, the only flyshop in Alabama LOCATED ON trout water, Simmons Sporting Goods/Birmingham, and David Fisher-Medfly-rockin' shadow box-ok, I promised the lady who won it that I would NOT bid... The mentioned companies and people donated services and items for our raffle and silent auction and we are grateful to all, thank you. Also thanks to all of the forum members who participated. As of late afternoon, we had sold all 100 tickets. The Loomis/Walters rod was won by 11 year old son of Scott Hill of Birmingham. I don't know who was more stoked. Dad or son. The father was nervous about his son "using" the rod. Matt assured him that was the sole purpose of the rod-fishing. I am meeting the young man and his father for photos the week and will post latter. I did receive some e-mails from forum members asking why Alabama had any need for a Trout Unlimited Chapter. Alabama does have year around trout water located on the Sipsey tailrace located below Smith Lake dam. Our goal is to better and protect our local waters and to assist our neighbors, all waters eventually connect and the future of our fisheries are dependent on local and regional iniative. Thanks again to all of you for your help...
Glad a little guy won it. He'll keep it forever!
Now he just needs "uncle Baldea" to break it in for him. :D
