Fishing in Durango

Hey guys I'm heading out tomorrow for Durango to fish with my dad, and brother on the animas and the san juan. Any last min tips or advice would be appreciated. This is my first trip out west but I have a feeling it won't be my last.

Probably 12 or 14 years back I fished the Animas right in town one evening while passing through. Not a whole lot of luck but I didn't spend much time there either. While in Duranglers that afternoon, this college age kid comes in with a picture of a huge fish he had caught that morning on the Indian Reservation section of the river. It was probably 10 lbs. or better. Durango, at that time anyhow, was a strange mix of cowboy and California. Interesting place to say the least. The young fella with the big fish may have been jacked up on something but he was talking 90 to nothing and asking questions like, "You wrap your own hooks, man?" Took me a while to figure out he was asking if I tied my own flies. Later, as my daughter and I were walking down the main drag, we see a really grungy looking guy weaving in and out of the traffic on his bicycle, holding a handmade sign while riding with no hands on the handlebars. As he got closer I read his sign. It said: "Cannabis, Cheap!"

4:20 is the universal time for all potheads to smoke up. Why? There are 420 chemicals in marijuana. How do I know this? I used to live in a neighborhood where 4:20 was celebrated everyday. I didn't partake, by the way.

That's a funny story, Jimmy. And hey, I'm gonna drop some copies of the magazine off at the Helen shop this weekend for you.

I do enjoy that beer though. It's brewed with hemp seeds, hence the 420 name.
