What are YOUR KIDS doing this summer?
Although summer is still several months away, now is the time to start planning for your child's summer vacation. Instead of doing the same old routine, send your kids on an exciting adventure exploring the great outdoors at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center, just east of Atlanta in Mansfield, GA. Knowledgeable interpretive specialists from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Wildlife Resources Division will be the instructors!
During our 2006 "Wild Summer Days" camp, children ages 7-10 will be engaged in the natural world around them. Hiking, fishing, live animal programs, and wildlife arts & crafts are just a few of the fun activities that will get your child outdoors and learning about nature. Day Camp session times are 9:30am-2:30pm Tuesday-Friday, and dates for each age group are listed below.
For children 11-14 years old, CEWC is offering week-long overnight camps that will give kids a "behind-the-scenes" look into the world of wildlife and their habitats. During their stay at the CEWC Lodge, campers will participate in hands-on activities that focus on the biology, natural history, and management of our natural resources. Through their experiences here at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center, your kids will take home the tools they need to become life-long stewards of the environment. FFA-FCCLA CENTER HOSTS WILDLIFE CAMP
COVINGTON, Ga. (April 7, 2006) -- The Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center in Covington (Newton County) will host a Basic Wildlife Camp June 25-30 and July 9-14 and an Advanced Wildlife Camp July 16-21. During camp sessions, young boys and girls can safely learn shooting sports, fishing, canoeing, wildlife conservation and deer stand safety and construction. The focus of both camps is to increase safety, awareness and appreciation of wildlife and outdoor sports to young boys and girls.
Basic Wildlife Camp is an outdoor adventure camp held June 25-30 and July 9-14 for boys and girls ages 10-15. The cost is $275 per camper, including lodging in cabins for five nights, 15 meals, all instruction, recreation, and a t-shirt. In addition to daily hands-on classes, students participate in recreational activities, such as swimming and miniature golf. The week of camp is centered on firearms and hunter safety. Upon completion of the week, students will receive Georgia Hunter Safety Certification and a Certificate of Completion. All firearms training is performed by Certified Georgia Hunter Education Instructors.
The Advanced Camp is July 16-21 for boys and girls ages 11-16 who have already received their hunter safety certification. The cost is $275 per camper, including lodging in cabins for five nights, 15 meals, all instruction, recreation, and a t-shirt. During the Advanced Camp, students will shoot 3-D targets, learn outdoor survival skills, work on fishing techniques, learn ATV safety and much more. Other activities include wildlife instruction, deer stand construction and fishing. All programs are hands-on and will be adapted to the age of the students.
Registrations are now being accepted and space is limited. Opportunities are available for sponsors. Volunteer applications are also being accepted.
