Check out these events and see if you want to lend a hand to conservation or show your kids what conservation is all about. I'm sure these folks would welcome your assistance and may show you a hot lure or a good pool in return for your volunteer efforts.
1) Smith Creek stream improvement project at Unicoi State Park; starts at 8 AM. Details: WRD staff (Lee or Leon) at 706-947-3112 or TU folks at http://tailwatertu.com/
Dodge this on your drive up (I live in Cleveland; it's only a hassle an hour before they come thru each town):

The race does not start in Blairsville until 11:30 Am, so you'd have time to build a trout stream structure and then slip in to Helen to watch the race.
2) Rabun brook trout stream improvement project: Call for details. Numbers in here.

3) Mountain Youth Adventure Day- Noontootla Creek. Coopers Creek Sportsmens Association. Kids' preregistration required. 706-745-6569
www.cooperscreeksportsmen.com . Hats off to this fine group!
PS- trout fishing has been great. Many good reports and tips here.

Click on "message board" and then "jump right in." Would you agree that 74 trout on a Buford Dam -to-Settles float trip is a good day????
Remember, our 2006 trout stocking list is now up on our website, and there are only four weekends left to the catch/release regulations period on GA's four Delayed Harvest trout streams. Start making plans for your kids to go harvest some of those DH fish after May 14. When is the last time you enjoyed a supper of fresh trout? Good luck.
Take a kid fishing. Before you know it, he'll be all grown up and will start taking you fishing!
