Cheese Grits and Dredger hit it Monday evening (4-8:30 PM) and had a good time.
Fish were deep while the sun was high, with the exception of some risers back
along the bank in shady areas. Fish came up about 45 minutes before dark to
intercept the hatching mayflies (#14 Light cahills) and egg laying caddis (#18
tan).

See the attached photo of ole Grits grippin' and grinnin'. We probably caught
about a dozen each (nothing big on this trip) and then enjoyed our Subway subs
under the stars when we returned to the parking lot at about 9:15. My office
mate enjoyed his first trip to Chattooga DH! While it was a two-coffee monring
on Tuesday, it was worth it. There are just a few weeks left of this action
before the water in our big rivers warms and the trout sulk til October.

Tip: come late and stay late, and fish shallow areas with broken surface unless
the deep pools are really turned on and you can see lots of risers. The fishing
gets better as the sun dies. The last 30 minutes of daylight are truly
outstanding as fish leap clear of the water to chase the swarming bugs just
above the water's surface. the darker it gets, the shorter yoru cast should be
so you have a chance to see, hear (slurp!), or feel the strike. Bring your
flashlight and a camera with a flash on it.

Sincerely,
The Dredger
