had a blast! wish I could have stayed longer. I now know how special the legendary tootla is. :) my first ever trout was a noontootla Rainbow about a 7incher. he hit a #10 black hellgramite. got another one on a #14 brown stone fly nymph, he was about 5 iches max. . missed a few and had a strike on a #14 brown may fly. flicking dries is hella fun but drifting tiny nymps throgh pools is cool too.
My trip would be concidered a failior to many accomplished trout anglers. I mean, two fish under 8 inches after a 7 hour drive up to blue ridge during two days of camping is certainly not impressive but to me it was perfect.... my first trout was wild and I did quite a bit of hiking up stream... at one spot I sat on a boulder near a small water fall and watched for rising trout while my feet dangled in the cool water and watched the cool little white flies spin upward in the trees. I think they were light cahills not sure though... my step father on the other hand grew up trout fishing un north in penn state and he caught 9 trout. ya know it's really all the little things that make a fishing trip. like dowing a 12 inch philly cheese with a large iced tea at subway after a long days fishing and hiking.. :D
I'd like to thank the kind and attractive( I hope she dosen't mind me saying that) lady at unicoi, she was very helpfull. I can't wait to go back!!
I guess it's back to Shoal bass fishing.
