In mid-May I got to go on a 3 day drigt trip down the Deschutes River, during the Salmon Fly "hatch", it was amazing. We threw nymphs at 'em on the first day and a half, then got into big dryfly action. Here is the floatilla:

Here is the critter we were matching, the Salmonfly. These guys are huge, about 2” long, and they are everywhere on the riverbank when they have hatched:

We were fishing for Redsides, which are native Rainbows. No stockers in this river. A 12"-14" slot limit means an average fish is 15". I got taken into my backing and broken off once, I assume that fish was quite a bit bigger. Our quarry:
