I was in Steamyboat Springs, Co (not a typo as it was nearly 100 degrees all 3 days) this weekend. By 10:00AM every day you could fry an egg on the sidewalk. Oh yeah, but there is no humidity. Right!
I fished the Yampa in downtown Steamyboat as instructed by a great group of people at Steamboat Flyfishers as well as great info I got from this board and friends of the board. Thanks Beth. I even used the appropriate flies, Tricos, Midges, EHC, Sallies, etc. all to no avail. Weighted, unweighted, dry, wet you name it I threw it.
I fished from 6:00AM until 10:30 AM on a beautiful stretch of water (the parks and wetland walkways they have is amazing, no cans of corn or worms anywhere). I did see a few large fish rise to the surface but not even a strike. I went on top, deep, in the middle. Every cast was to a spot where I knew I would get a hit. Nothing, nada. Misery loves company because I ran into 4 other ff guys and I got the same report from them. I did get some great pictures and it was cool to see the hot air balloons right over head. One balloon was no more than 50 feet off the water.
Also, we went to the Rodeo Friday night and we got AMAZING video of a bullrider getting thrown and tossed into the air TWICE...if someone can tell me how to post (George, Josh, somebody tell me how) and I will put it up here...the cowboy and bull both walked away okay...
I did not make it to the tailwater of the Yampa but I already informed Mrs. Vidalia a trip out there in the fall of '07 sure would be nice. She said it might not be a bad idea. Keep your fingers crossed.
