View Full Version : Just wanted to make sure...
this was getting the proper attention. Everyone needs to be aware and abide by these ground rules.
Thanks

Forum Rules and Guidelines (http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=75)
I have a problem with this statement??
"The Forum reserves the right to delete any post at any time without notice."
If a post needs to be deleted in the first place, should not said poster have an official warning given and the reason for the post being deleted.. TOO many times in the past posts would vanish, and nobody would claim to have his/her finger on the delete button.. If someones post is in violation of the rules, should they not be notified that if it happens again they could be banned??
I am just curious as to how changes get made if the voices of the members fall on deaf ears?
I know this has been said here before by myself and well as others. First I'm no longer on the BOD but do still listen and talk to them, but not on any regular basis. Actually I've not even been lurking here much as other events in my life have required more attention than NGTO.
I do have to say, What's so hard about following the rules? Do I like all of them persoanlly, No, but I do abide by them because I understand what NGTO as a NON-profit Org's goals are and while I'm here in this forum I am on my best behavior. I do not want my bad behavior to contribute negativity so that when NGTO wants to shake hands and parterner with say the DNR,WRD,TU, GON, Kayakers/boaters, or who the heck ever, that any of those entities would not want us around to be apart of makeing our fishery better. That is our goal isn't it? Better fishing through sharing knowledge and lending a hand when possible! ::ke:
The BOD/MOD's do not sit and hover over this board and read every single post. Your perspective of them of being BIG Brother isn't on target. Mods/BODs will delete post at their individual discrestion. Group concensis is not practical due to this not being 'real time' communication. We don't all have the Nextel network where we are a click away from each other when a post goes afowl to confirm that all is in agreement to make a deletion! We all have a life awa from this board. There has to be some give an take as we are not perfect by any means. We are not psycologist here to settle your squables. We are fishermen.
As The Ole Man somewhat stated, "It's YOUR post that make this forum what it is."
I'm not asking for a BOD meeting everytime a post needs to be taken out. What i am saying is if someone has the time to delete something, they have the time to place a PM or whatever in the offenders account.. If you dont have the time, dont delete it.. Thats it!!! I dont see a problem with that.. We really dont need to go back down the road of "Hey where did my post go??" And nobody does know.. One BOD may not take issue with someone, one might..
Again, yes live buy the rules set forth and you wont have this problem, or so we hope.. But I still see no reason why a deletion cannot be explained by the person removing the post...
Dennis, To some degree I agree with your request, but I feel that if a psot is edited or deleted, the 'automaticness' of "I guess that was over the line !" should run through the posters head to answer the 'why'.
Before we upgraded to this board software we had a Rules Page. It was lost in trasition to this new format (Trust me I searched high and low through old backups of the board for it).
To give some explanation...
My timing on the rules was in part to some heated discussion of late, BUT, this was discussed at last winters BOD meeting. I asked one of the admins at the GON board if we could use their format as well as some of their verbage as we run the same message board software and re-inventing the wheel was not on my agenda. ;) Permision was granted but not deployed until last night when I found some time to sit down and CAREFULLY pick thru the admin side of this board software to create the Rules forum/thread . Trust me, I didn't want to crash the whole site and it takes some time to figure how this thing works/ticks.
These rules are a start and will be tweaked as you'll soon seen some discussion to their content to follow.
Sorry i I ruffled more feathers! ::ke: ;)
I'll fix your wagon next Nov4th Mister...lol
No ruffled feathers, just think thats the least someone can do when they delete something.. You remember the problems we had in that past and just trying to keep that from coming back.. But I think thats something ya'll should think about next meeting...
perhaps in addition to the email/private message the person doing the deleting should post a message stating posts were deleted for the following reason
flaming, offensive language, etc. Something more than just .. post deleted.
then close the thread??
This way if someone is following a thread, they know some parts were removed and a general reason why it was removed. This cuts down on confusion with others who see a partial message and sit there scratching their head ....
I'm a little cornfused with some of this that has been going on lately.
a reason might be good...
start with

then add

you can also use

and finally

In all due seriousness to the matter at hand, maybe a short reason as indicated in post above might help. IMO some of the locked threads I viewed lately are that way for a fairly obvious reason.

Sorry for a silly question here, but are you having problems with posters?

Not really Daisy --just a usual family feud. They'll all kiss and make up before the dust settles. There's an old Navy saying that "a bitchin crew is a happy crew". This place must be overjoyed. :)
Welcome to NGTO.
So who is up for some kissing and making up this weekend?? Hmm? Hmm? I'm thinking I may hit the buford dam and toss a few spinners bright and early one morning. Why? A) I haven't tossed spinners in a while, b) I don't like wading that section c)I don't float and d)the water is cold. Come one, come all, bring your corn, bring your powerbait, bring your crankbaits, bring whatever ain't illegal. The mouth is better (besides the 4 missing wisdom teeth) and it's time to see if the drugs have passed enough to enable me to a) find the dam, b)tie a knot, and c) catch a trout while d) not making a total fool of myself in front of e) everyone.
Bring your camera's, I'm the squirrley looking guy that'll be mumbling alot while carrying the can or pesticide looking for my red swingline. I said no salt! no salt! There were BIG grains of salt!
This should probably be in another forum but f) i'm too lazy to copy and paste.
