I just booked a trip to Islamorada for June. I received an email from a guide saying I need to book my fishing quickly, since June is a busy month.
My question is this, should I splurge for the full day of fishing? I want to try bone fish and tarpon, and I am not sure if half of a day will do it. I also dont want to waste time and money if my double haul is not up to par.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith

Keys guides are not cheap. The problem is, generally a half day could be 70-80% of the price of a full day. Realistically, the guide cannot run two half day trips. Unless he has booked a dawn patrol trip and and afternoon trip, a half day means he goes home early. A whole day trip allows you take advantage of a whole tide moment. The Bonefishing on Fly in the Keys is the toughest in the world. They are big and SMART! A double haul can only help the cast and presentation, not the fishes' willingless to eat. Be prepaired to throw bait. The Tarpon on the fly could be stellar. If you want a heap of info, talk to Gary, here at the shop. He has been going to the Keys for 30+ years. Oh, and be prepared to get yelled at by the guide. They mean well, and are impassioned about catching fish. It's just that they can go "Keys Guide" on you. Don't take it personally. -Rob

That does not sound good. I think I read a post on here a while back about a guy getting yelled at. I will keep working on the casting and guess I will take a 2/3 day at least. Thanks for the info, I am looking forward to trying the bones and fighting a tarpon. I will try to talk to your guy about the keys.
