I have driven through areas like Deals Gap over to Bryson City and back down through Highlands and was wondering where in those areas I could do some fishing. I stopped at all of the water falls above Highlands and saw all of the great fishy looking spots along the road, and wondered if any of that was fishable. Just wondering so that next time I am in the area I can find a new place to wet a fly. Thanks

The Cullesaga River runs along the road between Highlands and Franklin. It's usually pretty good early (before July) but warms up a bit in late summer. Lots of smaller creeks in the area, but make sure you are not trespassing as many are bordered by private land.

I lived across the street from the Cullasaja when I was in Franklin. They stock it with trout when it’s cool enough to hold them, but the water up toward Highlands is better. I’ve caught some good holdovers out of that river, but not many.
Check out the Little Tennessee next time you’re in Franklin. The smallmouth and rockbass are a ton of fun.

We fished the Tuckasagee ( ?) last week on two seperate
days just outside of Dillsborough on the DH section, caught some
amazing fish, Very easy to get to, lots of wadeable water.
You might also try the Natahalla River over above Andrews it is
good too. Still DH I think.

If you want info on the area try Brookings Outfitters in Highlands

Is Brookings in Highlands now because I drove through Cashiers last week and they looked like they had closed up shop there?

I promised my neighbor I'd put a note in here for her. She's having to sell her home on the Tuckasegee near Sylva, NC because of health. The river is about 100 feet from our back doors in a quiet retirement community. If anyone is interested in contacting her they can email me at troutabout@yahoo.com Thanks,
