The full length version of Atlanta Native, Frank Smethurst, catching Rooster Fish Off the Beaches in Baja is here. This is the final 25 minute version of the Five minute Video that won Drake Magazines 2006 Competition! It is "most excellent" and word is he is working on his next video excursion.

I talked to this cat at the Shallow water show. He said the jellyfish were insane! Cool video, I have included the you tube link. Thanks man!

Can someone tell me what this video is about? It seems to be very popular.

It's about the quest for big, big, big, big, and elusive rooster fish. Did I mention they are big??? Watch the trailer in the link Fire Walker provided above, and you will get the gist of it. Quite amazing I must say. The buggy is pretty sweet too.

I do not have access to utube at work and I do not have a computer at home, just my blackjack phone.

Yeah, I dig the Scott endorsed dune buggy. I'm sure running up and down the shore slinging a 10 weight is not exhausting in any way.

Stop by and pick up a copy then...it will be well worth the $20 and time. Trust me.

I think they are slinging 10s. I want to know what his "rasta" fly looks like.
I think I will be back down that way on Friday to pick up a reel. I might grab a copy if they still have one. Ben - you didn't buy one yet did you?

No, I watched it with Paul the other day, but I'l probably take home a copy next time I'm in there. I'm still waiting on my feeding time from the Drake as well.

Let me know what you decided; I'm still working on getting those videos up, but should get to it tonight.
Sorry for the hi-jink, rdtm lays it down.

If you've got a loaner 10 wt. and Brian will drive, I am in....;)
I'm supposed to pick up my 8wt reel and a copy of RDTM on Friday. I'll let you know for sure after that.
If not, I'll find you a nice cab-over-camper we could hotel in.

Sure I'll drive us out there.
1 condition - You guys buy the gas for the Durango & I'll buy the gas for the dune buggy. Deal? :cross: :D
Hey Steve - you think I could make one of those roosters fly? ;)

I'm not riding anywhere in a car with such an ugly trailer hitch. Well, maybe if there was beef jerky involved.

Well, after watching, I thought the video was very well done. However, I was disappointed in the length. Overall the video has some great footage, and is nicely put together. I can't imagine what kind of commitment Rooster fishing in Baja takes - doing wind sprints in unbelievebly hot conditions, losing so many fish, dealing with all the critters, and getting so many ERs (encouraging refusals).
But on the sour side, I can't believe I paid $20 for RDTM. The DVD player said something like 16 mins and some change when the credits started rolling + an additional 8 mins or so for the extras. Compare that to some of the other Warren Miller-esque fly fishing DVDs that have come out lately, and the length is a bummer. Both Vol. I and Vol. II of TBD have been something like 2 hours with an hour of bonus footage and they were about the same price. I just would have liked to see some more footage - it seems like if you've seen the 5 minute trailer over on the Drake, then that's about the whole video.

Nate,
If you don't mind I'd like to take a look at it if you have it. I'm a little behind the curve, I just saw TBD this week.
